Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the Dell Synaptic Drivers v13.2.2.2, I seem to have gained additional touchpad gestures.
Along with the original chiral-scroll and two-finger zoom I now have:
-two-finger scrolling (vertical and horizontal)
-three-finger forward/back for web browsers and the Windows image viewer
-rotate
-three-finger quick launch (holding three fingers down for 1 second opens notepad)
-momentum (I'm not sure if this one is new)
I tried upgrading to the newest Dell Synaptics Drivers v14.0.2.0 and all of these extra gestures disappeared. I did a System Restore and now have them back again.
I have a few questions about all this if anyone knows,
-How come they don't work with the newest drivers?
-Why do neither Windows nor the Driver have settings for any of these gestures? (I can't even change the three-finger launch to something other than notepad)
-Do any of you have these gestures as well? Is this normal?
-
Just use this, the latest Synaptics Technology
http://www.uscrybe.com/download.html
It works perfectly for me. -
That's why notepad kept opening. I though I was insane.
-
Lol. You can change it. I have it changed to initiate the Windows Flip, which I think is pretty cool
-
I gotta try this! the software that came with my 1640 only had some weird circle scroll thing that I disabled.
-
Wow, I had the exact same experience/question. Been using 14.0.2 lately with the fingerscroll addon, although I'm contemplating going back to 13.2 as I did not realize that they had the three finger forward/back and rotate gestures as well. Also the two finger scroll seemed to work a little better than it does with fingerscroll.
-
where can I download the version of synapsis with the 2 finger scrolling that the OP is talking about?
-
Wow this worked perfectly for me too. Thanks.
So for anyone who wanted those extra gestures, install this software. The important thing isn't even the Scrybe program itself, but the fact that it installs a fully unlocked Synaptics driver with itself. Afterwards you don't even have to use Scrybe (you can remove it from the startup folder in the Start Menu) unless you want the special Scrybe gestures.
Oh and as a note, install it over your existing drivers. It didn't let me install when I had removed my Dell drivers, so I had to reinstall those first. -
I guess the scrybe feature is pretty cool and it is currently still under development. Maybe we could use it to write later on. who knows
-
same here, i just tried version 14.0.2 and cannot use 2 fingers gesture
IMO dell dun plan to add these features so they remove it in the latest driver
btw, thanks chewyeong90 for that driver
-
do u overwrite newest 14.0.2 driver or the older 13.2.2.2 ?
-
I overwrote 13.2.2.2 but I think it will work with either version, since it overwrites whatever driver you have with a Synaptics non-Dell driver that has all the gestures enabled.
-
Yes it does overwrite. You could just uninstall and reinstall if you want. The scrybe basically is v15.0.0.1
-
Has anyone else noticed that pressing both mouse buttons to emulate a "middle" button does not work after the install of this new driver. Is there a way of getting this option back without reverting back to the older drivers?
-
I'm having the same issue on my SXPS 13. I prefer the new drivers by quite a bit (though uninstalled Scrybe when I realized I couldn't easily modify existing gestures) but the lack of middle click functionality is a nuisance.
-
Dammit! I was so happy with these drivers until I realized that there's no way to do the two-button middle click OR the two finger click that fingerscroll gives you. Roar.
-
Why do you need the middle button function for ? To scroll ?
-
Scroll, close windows, open new windows, etc.
-
I've found the solution to emulating the middle click button. Instructions are below, courtesy of hasham11:
I can confirm that it works. -
Thanks, worked like a charm
.
-
Works for me, awesome! Only one remaining is the lack of a "two fingers down" option. Maybe this can be enabled with a similar registry entry?
-
Errm, I forgot. What was the "two fingers down" option used for?
-
I have it set to middle click in fingerscroll, but right click works nicely too.

Download the 2 finger tool that I posted there. -
Works, thanks. However I was hoping there would be a registry tweak of some kind to add in this kind of support (like the both buttons thing).

Hello,
do you guys know anything about the quick touch buttons (like the ones for volume, wireless card,...) above the keyboard on the 1640? I just installed Win7 ultimate (from dell) and there is one of these buttons that does'nt work anymore: the one for letting the Cd/DVD out. (the most right one).
Ive searched the dell site and installed some drivers (ETI,touchpad...) but it is still broke.
It worked before Win7 so it is not mechanically broke.
anyone?
thanks,
Michiel -
Hmm, it works for me. Have you installed the latest Win7 version of Dell Quickset? Quickset is what's responsible for the buttons.
-
Thanks a lot man!
i installed Quickset and it works.
I tought software for these buttons was ok because the others worked.
thanks again
back to MW2

The webcam also does seem to need a driver.
On the dell site i can only find dell webcamcentral. Is this the one? -
It's under "Input Device Drivers" called "Creative Labs - Driver/Integrated Webcam".

Been using 13.2 forever with no desire to upgrade as I read it neutered functionality. Glad I found this..Other than the slick new UI, nothing seems to have changed much since 13.2 What I find odd, and it maybe limited to just my experience, but just like when I first installed the 13.2s, this 15.0 DIdn't work. I installed over, rebooted and it still said 13.2. I installed again a 2nd time and it worked. Everytime I install synaptic driver update it seems like I have to do it twice for it work..
