My Studio XPS has started behaving strangely over the last few days. I havent installed any new software or anything so its a bit unexpected. If I leave it on and it goes into sleep mode, the screen will turn white. If I move the mouse, there is a brief flash of colours striped down the page (hard to explain, sorry).

My laptop will then return to normal except one thing. My keyboard is EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive, taking several seconds per character. The only way is to restart my laptop twice. The first time, the white screen and rainbow screen of doom returns.

If someone could enlighten me about what the hell is going on that would be great.

    My Stats:
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.101014-0432)
    System Model: Studio XPS 1640
BIOS: gPhoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A14
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
    Memory: 4060MB RAM
Page File: 2255MB used, 6067MB available
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11
    DX Setup Parameters: Not found
    DxDiag Version: 7.00.6002.18107 32bit Unicode

Perhaps you should run the hardware test in Dell Support Center if you have that installed, or download the Diagnostics thing on your laptop's Driver and Download page.

It sounds like there could be a problem with your GPU, but it's best not to guess.

I will give them a go later on this week. I have an interview and 2 coursework deadlines next week, so now is probably not the best time to do it.
