    I have a studio XPS 1645 with i7 720 / 4 GB / ATI 5730 (for full specs refer my signature)

My uncle bought it from USA about 6 weeks back, I am currently using it in india.

I am facing problems with heating issues.

I called dell, they replaced my motherboard once heatsink/fan twice.

After they replaced my motherboard heat problems have relaxed a bit.
But i still face heating issues. Now the laptop doesn't heatup when idleing / surfing on net, although its warm but not hot.
But things change when i game on it. It starts heating up a lot.
gpu-z shows the temp hovering around 65-75 C although thats ok but the area around my wristpad and the touchpad itself turns burning hot.

I aready have a 9 cell battery if thats makes things better.

I said this to the dell rep. He said he has no problem replacing my parts but he wont replace my system. And i dont want to open my new laptop multiple times and i dont think thats gonna work anyway.
can you suggest me anyway i can convince them to give me a replacement ?? Or any email address i can mail to put forward my case ??

Is this a common problem with this laptop ??
What sort of heat should i be expecting while i game??
If this is common then i would have no other option but to bite the bullet and live with it.

Would a laptop cooler do any good??
And if yes, than how much does it cost and where can i get it in india??

What else can i do to keep the laptop cool??

Any sort of help is appreciated..
    Thanx in advance.

Edit : I have already transfered the ownership of the laptop.

How long are you in India for? If the heat is a concern for you just don't game on it whilst your away. Once you get back to the US have a service agent look at it. Simple really.

No, i live in india. I have also submitted the ownership transfer form so the qwnership is transfered aswell.

Do you face the heating issues aswell ???
whats the idle and full load temprature of our laptop ??

And how did you get the 740QM + RGBLED combo, i guess the rgbled's were discontinued before they shipped 1645's with 740QM processor?

Your GPU temp is 65-75C, but what are your CPU temps when the palm rest gets hot? Due to the location of the parts, the CPU should have a much greater impact on the palm rest temperature.

From my understanding get any kind of laptop cooler, extra fans will always help go to newegg.com and try to find something online that will ship to you. (I have no clue about anything in India)

Secondly the temps are normal for gaming, why you want a nice AC'ed Room and a laptop cooler. Your touchpad is getting hard because the north/south bridge is right under it without a heatsink.

I do not think the laptop was made for gaming, but with a laptop cooler I think you will see much better results.

My trackpad doesn't get that hot even after gaming.

Anyway you should get the NC2000. It's the best cooler for you, since it cools the entire bottom of the notebook. It should keep surface temperatures in check while you're gaming.

You saying "I am currently using it in india" made it sound like it was going to return to the US.

Not really, but then I use it for my businesses, AutoCAD and photo editing, not gaming. Though I did install a couple of games last week.

Playing Mafia II I get maximum CPU temps of 75-80 and maximum GPU temps of 70-75. The underside of the device gets quite warm, and this transfers into the strip along the front. My thoughts are Dell are using the die-cast aluminium-alloy bottom cover as a heatsink in lieu of multiple cooling vents.

The 'wristpad' area gets warm to hot, but not so hot I can't sit my hand on it. My opinion is, deal with it. There hare literally thousands of threads on the heat this laptop generates. It has been out for quite a while and I'm yet to hear of large proportions of people having the device fail because of heat-related issues.

I am in Australia where it is still an option.

He said that his palm rest gets BURNING HOT. Give him the benefit of the doubt. There is a chance he could just have sensitive skin, but telling someone to deal with a possibly defective system is just wrong. Lets at least wait for the CPU load temps.

"BURNING HOT" is subjective. The best solution is to apply your own thermal compound and use a cooler while gaming.

Yes, it's subjective, but how do you measure the temperature of the palm rest? I know I don't have a thermometer that could do it.

My main point is that maybe his palm rest gets 30C hotter than all of ours, so telling him to deal with it is silly since we don't know what exactly he is dealing with. I think the CPU load temp will be the best indicator of how the hot the palm rest gets, besides an actual palm rest temperature reading.

My cpu temprature hovers around 72C-77C under full load.
And the are now giving me a replacement.

I am counting on that as they have agreed to give me a replacement finally.
Amusingly I called them to get my 'eject soft key' working. The rep. saw how many part replacement have been made to my laptop just 6 weeks in the warrenty and offered me the replacement without me asking for it.

Waiting to hear from them now.
They said they would mail me in 48 hours.

I am anyway planning to get a cooler.

And thanx everyone for helping me.
I am starting to love this forum.

And anyone knows whats the procedure for replacement ??
And can i request them for giving me a laptop with i7 620m instead of i7 720qm. As 620m is a cooler processor between the two.
