I am looking to get a Studio XPS 16 soon, but can't quite decide on which model to get and had a few questions...

    1) What is the battery life of the 1647 (i5) compared to the 1645 (i7) assuming they have the same specs. I've read that i5's should last longer, but I really couldn't find anything comparing the two for these systems.

    2) When configuring the 1645 and 1647 side-by-side with the same specs. The 1647 is about the same price as the 1645, if not more (depending on which processor selected). I thought the i5's were supposed to be less expensive than the i7's. Since they are about the same price, would it be better to go with the i7? Any reason to choose the i5 over i7?

    3) I noticed these come with a 9-cell battery that has a bump on the bottom. Does this make it awkward or difficult to use on your lap or when lying in bed?

    4) Is having the RGBLED screen 'extra work'? I've read that some users needed to calibrate their screen and have color profiles...and that some programs didn't use the color profiles, making things look weird in those programs. Any reason to get a RGBLED display if I don't get a Blu-ray drive? Also, what is the battery life of a system with a RGBLED display compared to one with a WLED display?

    Thanks in advance!

HI and Welcome to NBR, I'll try to answer these the best I can.

    1. I get about 4.5 hours on the 9 cell, my screen is dimmed and I am listening to music and just browsing the web. Core i5 processors do use less power than Core i7. It still depends on what you are doing though.

    2. I simply chose the i5 because it uses less power and suites my needs perfectly. Ask yourself do you really need all that power from the core i7? Do you run heavy programs that need that much power? It might be a little more expensive because they did just come out.

    3. Extremely, trust me on this one. This would be my only complaint about the notebook. Its not bad but its to the point where I am thinking of investing in a 6 cell just for when I use the notebook on my lap, which is quite often.

    4. Some users say the WLED is nicer but I would have to disagree 110%. No notebook has even come close to this laptop's screen. The colors just pop right off the screen. I believe some users reported issues with the 1640/1645 models but as of now no issues with the screen have been reported on the 1647. So yes in my opinion I would get the RGBLED screen. That was actually one of the main reasons I chose this laptop.

    Best of Luck to you!!!!
