Basically reformatted the complete hard drive of a brand new studio xps 1647. As with normal dells, it came preloaded with a bunch of junk. Stupidity on my part was to not back up the drivers.

Anyway, I need help with a few problems.

    1) The wireless doesnt work. The network adapater doesnt exist. Is there a driver that needs installing? I cannot find it. Is there a way to tell which card I own so i can install the right driver? please help!!

    2) the eject button doesnt work either. What driver is required for that?

and when i review device manager:
the ones with the ! cones are:
    base device
    base device
network controller (which i assume is the wireless internet card)

    1) What wireless card do you have? It would say which one in your order/invoice/receipt from Dell.

    2) Dell Quickset Drivers and Downloads

Oh... you didn't buy it directly from Dell. You could take the bottom plate off the laptop and look for the label on the card itself.

    ALL FIXED!

just installed a few other drivers, at random and it worked.

    weird.

though i still have two "base system devices" under "other devices" in device manager..

not sure how to update those since i dont have the drivers for them, nor does the web.

Can you post exactly what drivers you installed and where you found them. I have the exact same laptop and problem you have. The CD eject button does not work and the wireless driver is not working.

    Drivers & Downloads

This is the driver support page for the SXPS 1647. You'll want:

    System Software
    Intel Chipset driver
Intel SATA/AHCI Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD driver
    IDT/audio driver
    Broadcom Ethernet driver
Intel (or Dell) wireless driver - most systems have Intel but if it refuses to install, you might have a Dell branded adapter.
Bluetooth driver if you have one...
    ITE Infrared sensor driver
    Synaptics Touchpad driver
    QuickSet
    Finally, Ricoh Memory card Reader

If you're feeling daring and want the latest and greatest, all the driver downloads in my thread here are applicable to the 1647 (NOT THE BIOS UPDATE! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL OR YOU WILL POSSIBLY BRICK YOUR LAPTOP): http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...driver-softwae-updates-studio-xps-1645-a.html
