Hey everyone! Ive searched high and low for an answer to this question, but i cant seem to find it anywhere.

Recently, my computer will lock up and show a bluescreen that says a power driver state failure is the fault for the bluescreen. I examined the dump file and it syas that ntoskrnl.exe is the probable cause. Can anyone give me a direction in where to go?

Dell Studio XPS 16 with Intel Core i7, ATi Radeon 5730, 6GB Ram, Windows 7 Professional.

    Thanks!
    -Steve

I would start by attempting a boot using Last Known Good and if that is a no-go, try booting into safe mode and rolling back any recent drivers you've installed.

Tried that :( Also tried system restore but it didnt seem to help.

Also, when I bring the computer out of standby, it makes a series of sounds (like a USB device is getting disconnected) And then randomly a short time later will show up with the BSOD.

Thats the other thing, the BSOD is kinda random, like Ill be using my computer for 15 mins and it will go, or ill be using it for quite a while (5-10 hours) and then it will go.

    Thanks for the response.

Are you getting a series of beeps during your bootup? 1 beep is all you should hear, if you have any more than that, then there is something up with either your Ram or your video card. Try re-seating your ram and video card.

If you are only receiving the normal single-beep, grab an os disk and run a repair.

Well, if it boots normally, then I would do a repair with an os disk or going in and uninstalling ALL of your drivers and reinstalling them from the manufacturers' sites.

Although, if it was me, I would personally just reformat my computer. I love starting from scratch. Nothings better than a freshly installing os xD

Haha thats the problem, I just recently redid my entire computer because of this same problem. It worked well for awhile, but then the same problem came right back.

Ill also try going through and removing all third party applications that run in the backround.

    Thanks again!
