So from what I can tell:
T9600 2.8Ghz
4GB RAM
320GB (most likely 5400RPM since I don't see a 7.2K)
Bluetooth (370)
Intel 5100 (1x2)
6 cell battery (I have to wait until the unit gets here, but my original unit had a 9 cell)
15.6" FullHD 1080p WLED (which is what I want, we'll find out if it has LG/AUO)
Can anyone figure out what graphics card it has though? My original unit had the upgraded graphics (8600GT), so I would assume Dell would do the same and get me the Radeon 4670, not the 3670...
I'm probably just being impatient, I mean, it's going to be delivered in 3 hours the latest from now, haha.

I didn't know what graphics card was going to be in my SXPS 16, but you have that on your build like mine..
I'd bet you have the 1GB ATi 4670 -
WOooowwww.... i was also wondering about the gfx card, im also getting a replacement and got the same specs.
Shoot me in the foot if im wrong, but im almost 100% sure that is in fact the 1gig ATi 4670!!! i thought i was getting the low end one.... YEEESSSS!!!
Cheers on your new laptop
mine is already delivered, but its back home and im traveling right now, its quite frustrating -
they no longer have any more m1530s?
-
Actually the FJTSU-A160 line of hard drives is 7200RPM I do believe, but if it isnt just look at the good side, you can get in the market for a 256GB SSD upgrade and get either an Indilynx or Intel SSD that supports TRIM. I'd bet on you getting a 4670 as well, you should be setup nicely.
-
Well I finally got it, and everyone is right, got the 4670 and the 7200RPM 320GB HDD... what's interesting is that despite the name implying its a Fujitsu, it was actually a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 320GB! I really like it so far, the speakers are mind blowing... the display (LG) is as beautiful as my M1530's... the only two issues I had was of course the 6 cell vs the 9 cell I ordered, and also that the two glowing "rings", one on each side of the laptop, one doesn't work... something I figure that a tech can come and easily fix though...
Intel 5100 ABGN... probably will get the 5300 off Amazon (is like $40...), and my Intel Turbo Memory 1GB (1st gen) card works in the WWAN slot, which is nice, anyone else know if the 2nd gen Turbo Memory cards will work also? (as additional overkill, I am putting in my X25M 80GB in it...)Attached Files:

grats, enjoy!

Weight - My m1530 with the 9 cell weighs about the same as the 1640 with the 6 cell... and I think the 6 cell they sent me is defective, because using BatteryBar it shows only 5100mwh capacity... whereas the 9 cell on my m1530 is somewhere around 85wH... so I'm kind of afraid of running it on battery until the 9 cell gets here
Sound Quality - No competition - the XPS 1640 wins hands down. The built in mini sub is amazing, and I have to say, this laptop is probably one of (if not, then is) the best laptops I've ever heard in my life! It has a built in SRS control panel as well to help fine tune the sound.
Performance - It's a little hard to tell, especially since I'm using a SSD, but it is still plenty fast and does everything I want to do very quickly, which is just how it was on my 1530.
I do have to say though, the 1640 actually is a little quieter than my 1530, in terms of fan noise. It does get warm pretty quick, I attest that to the 4670 graphics, however it never gets too hot. I'm sure when I get the 9 cell it will help with ventilation also.
Screen Brightness -
Quick question - Those of you with XPS M1640s... the AC adapter... the ring that is on the connector, does it glow blue or white for you? and both rings on the display hinge (left and right) glow white for you, right?
-
both hinges glow white, and turn orange when battery is low.
thanks for the info btw -
No problem! Just hope that Dell gets me my 9 cell and the left hinge glow working again in an *expedient* manner..
I thought you got your 1640 already? -
i knew that because you only have to do a bit of research to find out, and im thankful for the info you wrote -
-
btw, have you tried any games yet, how does it perform at its native resolution? -
All on High Settings at the max res (I think 1600x900 cause I got the LCD Screen) with very little to no lag!
This M1640 is AWESOME! -
I actually don't game anymore, so I have yet to test the graphics power of my laptop. I am sure though, it can play the latest games without much of a problem.
The funny thing is that in order to fix the power status rings, they have to replace the WHOLE LCD assembly, it seems. I just hope I get another LG WLED 1080p display. Odd thing is, they're sending me a WHITE with leather assembly. I wonder how easy it is for the tech to just put in the new assembly and keep the old LCD panel.... because I don't know how well I am going to like having to keep the leather clean, especially over time. -
So the tech came, and I have to say, the white does look very nice
... worth trying to keep clean. The panel is an AUO, not an LG. However, from what I can see as far as I can tell it looks just fine to me. I figure that since the Dell reps themselves can't tell what is what, it would be a lengthy process of me having new panels sent out to me before I find an LG one... so... and I'm getting tired of having to deal with Dell. I haven't had much objection with them, its just something I don't want to deal with. I have 6 more months of warranty, I figure I"ll do it later if I start to notice image quality issues.
-
)
yeah IMO i like to keep dell warranty as a last resort, just tired of all the process.
hope that screen is as good as the LG one! -
It would seem so. I mean, I don't have two 1640s side by side for comparison, but after watching some 720p and 1080p clips, looks just fine!
