I called and chatted a few times since all I hear is "I dont see that available in the configuration" and the MOST helpfull rep told me to order the laptop and then after recieving it I can contact tech support to then send the computer back to dell to possibly get the gpu upgraded for the cost of $150-180. Seems a bit screwed that a company that makes computers would need to ship me one they custom make for me and then tell me to contact them to get a part changed when they could just put the right one in in the first place.

I can't see a way to configure that either, and I've been looking for the last several weeks on the Home, Enterprise, and EPP portions of the site. I think the 5730 only comes with the 1645 (quad core i7) and not the 1647.

If getting an i7 isn't a big issue I would definitely recommend just getting the i7 and the 5xxx series card.

I would much rather have the i7 over the i5...

The OP might be worried abut temps and battery life.

Temps are fine. Battery life is fine as well due to the clock modulation. If the power isn't being used the clocks go way down until the higher clocks are needed. I get 3+ hours with my sig rig and the 9 Cell.

True, but I think with i5 you'll get an extra 30 minutes. I also heard that there are slight heat and throttling problems with i7. I know they have been mainly fixed, but are still a small problems.

you should defiantly opt for the I-540m, not everybody needs a quad core..

I got a brochure in the mail last week that ONLY offers the dual core version of the XPS 16, and it is paired with the 5730. I live in the US.

I threw it away so I'm not sure if it was called a 1645 or 1647 but I am certain it was an XPS 16 with i5 and 5730, and that it was the only version of the XPS 16 listed (no quad cores, no 4670s anywhere). Maybe change is coming.

I'm sure they'll pair the 2 eventually. This is normal for notebook manufacturers, they'll pair the better GPU with the more expensive processor first, then after everybody buys the more expensive stuff that's going to, then they'll drop it down to other models.
