I'm looking into getting a laptop fairly soon. I am trying to decide if i want to go with the xps 1530 or studio xps 16. I read various reviews of how hot the studio xps got and was wondering if it has gotten that problem fixed at all. Also any advise on which laptop i should learn toward is much appreciated.![]()

Most reviews have been exagerated about the heat its a very cool laptop. The palmrest gets warm not hot but if you dont want that get a solid state drive

Will an SSD noticeably reduce heat, or is it not really worth shelling out more cash?

No more hot palmrest with SSD

I'm going to wait until the price gets cheaper and the capacity gets higher...then I'll just switch out. Give it like six months, it's already way down from what it was a little while ago from what I can tell.

A SSD won't necessarily reduce heat. It really depends on which one you choose, since many SSDs continue to draw a good bit of power even when the computer is idle, as opposed to a HDD which can spin down.
If you choose to buy a SSD, do it for the shock-resistance and low latency. -

I don't imagine the xps will get much hotter than my 1720 does. This thing cooks when the 8600 starts rolling.

I think (especially with dell) it depends on the specific laptop, as regards how hot it gets.
If I were you I'd be leaning towards the 1640. The xps 1530 is great and all, but it is getting on a bit, the tech is old and there's also the whole 8 series Nvidia fiasco.
I'd only consider the 1530 if I was getting a very good deal. -
Yeah I was in the same dilemma, and for only slightly more money in the studio xps 16, you get a better processor, better ram, better graphics card, and usually larger HD...I didn't see a reason to go with the 1530, unless a 16" really won't work for you.
There seemed to be a lot of advantages the 16 had over the 1530.
