how long does it take to to start up your studioxps from pressing the on button to getting a page(google) open on firefox.

    takes me about 1min 2-3sec
but only like 49sec to get logged on

for some reason msn and firefox are slow on start up, maybe its because of 64bit?

    Also, stat your system specs.

    Good thread.
I would love to see people start posting their specs with the numbers.

I am especially interested in the 7200 vs 5400 and the 256GB SSD, which I am considering.
CPU and drive are most important here

Maybe we can make it something easier to compare more accurately, like how long from power on till you see your actual desktop background come up. ???
Need to have some easy standards for any decent comparable testing.
It takes some people 3 seconds just to get a mouse over an icon, let alone double click, that adds way too much variables.

Don't blame 64 bit OS. I regularly get 35sec boot times.

I've the same boot time, from power on to the time the start button appears.

Running startup programs increases this time. In my case I have Avast and Comodo Internet Security set.

yep, i got avast and msn running on start up.

so from pressing the on button, to getting to a google page on firefox, it takes me 1min 2-3sec.

i dont know why but firefox and msn are slow on startup, later if i try to start them up, they are quite quick. i dont know why but it might be vista 64bit as on my 8930 (p8400, 4gb, 320gb HDD) it loaded instantly. the specs are nearly the same exept for 64bit so its the only reaaon i can think of.
they need to start making programs for 64bit a lot now.

id like to see 32bit vs 64 bit differences.

    everyone post your times

'so from pressing the on button, to getting to a google page on firefox, it takes me 1min 2-3sec."

Still doing from cold startup to starting firefox?
Ok this should be interesting, not very comparable, but interesting.
I was hoping for something a bit more accurate but ok.

well its a good test as the internet is what most people turn there laptop on for.

so its good to see how quickly you can get to google from a cold startup.

There are way too many factors to accurately measure the time the laptop boots up

that's why MadBoris' idea of measuring up until the background shows up is probably the best way of doing it.

The background loads before most of the other user installed processes do. Still not very accurate but better than waiting until everything has loaded including firefox...

Some people have different services/processes running as well as firefox plugins installed
