    Studio xps 1640 palm rest

    Before I buy this laptop I am wondering what is the palm rest made from? I did chat to dell and they said magnesium? It doesnt look like magnesium to me,it looks like plastic.

    if its anything like the xps 1340, then yes the palm rest is plastic, with aluminum trim and magnesium support.

    Thanks thats what I thought, Dell online chat never know what thier talking about it seems all they train to do is upsell, push sales (make commision), and asnswer questions like what is faster a 2.0ghz cpu witrh 3mb's of cache or a 2.4ghz with 3mb's of cache.

    Of course, a 2.0ghz is going to be slower than a 2.4ghz, especially if they have the same cache and bus speed..

    What i was getting at is that the Dell live chat know pretty much nothing and only can answer simple questions like that.

    Tell them you won't buy unless they know what the average wing speed of an unladen swallow is.

    And yes, it is a very high gloss finger-print attracting plastic, which was one of the reasons why I was hesitant with my purchase. I preferred the all-aluminum of the m1330. However, it's not as bad as you would think... and it feels pretty nice too.
