Nope. I have the exact same scores as you for everything, except for RAM. I've got 7.3 on that for some reason
. Maybe you have corsair and I've got kingston or something...
, idk
-
it was my mistake, i got the 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
many thnsk to you -
Same score...(minus the slower HD)
1645 - 1600x900
i7-720QM
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
320GB SATA 5400RPM HD
ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 - 1GB
130W AC A08 BIOS
Windows Experience Score
6.9 - Processor
7.4 - RAM
6.7 - Graphics
6.7 - Gaming Graphics
5.5 - Hard Disk -
I got a 7.0 for my i7 720QM, XPS 1645. I did a fresh install of my own copy of Windows 7. The other scores are identical, even though I only have 4GB ram.
-
I have basically the same system as you except I have a 128GB SSD. I did a fresh installation of Windows 7 64-bit when it arrived.
Processor: 6.9
Memory: 7.4
Graphics: 6.7
Gaming: 6.7
Hard Disk: 7.4 -
i have identical scores to yours
-
These scores are meaningless and have no solid metric based on anything relevant to real world performance. Don't put any faith in them please...
-
Exactly the same mine.
-
Totally agreed.

WEI isn't a very good test, but it is FAR from meaningless. It can be useful, especially at the lower levels (2 to 4 range) and it will become even more useful in the future. The idea behind it is that software can be sold with a recommended WEI number, and if a computer meets the WEI, it can run the software well. If you look for it, I would bet that some of the software that you use has a recommended WEI score associated with it.
WEI doesn't take certain things into consideration (desktop CPU overclocking for example), but WEI isn't geared towards hardcore enthusiasts. It's supposed to be a simple number that can be easily used instead of reading "minimum requirements." (For example, it's nearly impossible for the majority of people to figure out if their graphics card meets the requirement based on name and model number since higher numbers don't mean higher performance. They would have to look it up on a case-by-case basis.)
Higher scores ARE a good indication that there is more advanced technology in the computer.
From Windows 7 help:
"The Windows Experience Index measures the capability of your computer's hardware and software configuration and expresses this measurement as a number called a base score. A higher base score generally means that your computer will perform better and faster than a computer with a lower base score, especially when performing more advanced and resource-intensive tasks." -
You're exactly the type of person MS marketing/PR dept is targeting. Its cool though, I will continue to ignore the WEI and you can continue you believing in it. No harm done.
-
Thank you.
So did anyone beat or match my 7.0 score for the 720QM? -
Best I can do with laptop in my signature. -
Gonna have to agree with this... WEI isn't just a poor benchmark, it's a terrible one since it doesn't consistently give the same scores to similarly configured machines nor does it reflect any sort of real life performance, especially when comparing older hardware to newer ones. Though benchmarks in general (except maybe GPU ones) don't really mean much in real life performance since most users never will utilize the component's full capability (or order "faster" components for "future proofing").

I use rivatuner v.2.24, you have to mod a file in order for it to recognise the 4670 check this out. And yes it does let you surpass the 84 limit, upto 96 before it shuts off, but i never get that high, onl once when testing with furmark and prime95
-
Yes WEI isn't very reliable. My GTX 260M gets a 6.7, yet the HD4670 is getting 6.8?? Um..yeah..
-
I think we can all agree that WEI isn't for hardcore enthusiasts like I said above.. However, the numbers aren't coming from nowhere. Check out these benchmarks:
Quake 3 Arena - Timedemo
Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.5GHz
GeForce GTX 260M, 1024MB
575 fps
Quake 3 Arena - Timedemo
Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz
Mobility Radeon HD 4670
639.7 fps
It's a very old game, but why didn't the GTX 260M win? -
My friend just bought a new $300 Dell desktop with quad core AMD processor. It gets a 7.2 processor rating to my Core i7's 6.9.
-
Thanx alot bro for the info. I need to know what is the clock speed you have set for your gpu and works with Catalyst 10.4??
-
I run it at 780 core clock and 930 Memory clock without any problems, only gets up to about 88C max when playing games(bad company2).
I have applied arctic silver 5 and have a cooler though so try something like,
710/870 or 760/890 -
Thanx alot man for your help. Rep++
Alright guys my new GPU score is 6.8 after overclocking it to 760/890
.
Now I am an addictive player of GTA series so I wanted to check does the GPU throttle in GTA:Episodes from Liberty City. I played a complete mission in the game and let GPU-Z log the temp in background. The game runs silky smooth now, no throttling at all! WOW!!
Now the temp: 92C MAX
I have applied AS5 but I guess its just wont help coz the temp in india itself is so high. When I turn on the PC the Idle GPU temp i get is 51C so not a surprise....
Thanx alot JKleiss for your help. Really appreciated

51C isn't that bad if it is warm out there.
In my home and work that are both air-conditioned, my idle temps are 48-55.
-
I have an i7 720 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and 500 GB hard drive, and my scores are as follows:
Processor 7.0
RAM 7.4
Graphics 6.7
Gaming graphics 6.7
Hard disk 5.9 -
Dellienware Workstations & Ultrabooks
the wierd thing is, i had the same cpu with 8gb 1333 and i got 7.0 or sometimes even 7.1 for cpu with my alienware M15x. maybe the mobo is able to provide better performance. the win rating aint accurate anyways so..
-
strange, my graphics is only getting 4.3????
-
Another reason why the WEI isn't useless. This tells you that you have a problem. Try updating your drivers. What GPU do you have?
-
I have been trying to get gta 4 working for me, but the settings are too low to get the game going. Can you share the graphics settings you used on your xps? I can hardly play it on 720p resolution with no shadows, low water, vehicle details around 40, the rest around 15.... And I've got the 5730!
-
+1 on that

How come my CPU gets lower scores than a i7 720 and a better score with 4GB comparing to 6GB? same goes for SSD :/ -

well how on earth am i getting 7.7 for ram when i have only 1066 Mhz 4 gb ram -
I am getting only 6.1 for gaming graphics as well as for graphics
I also have a ATI 4670
Complete config. in my signature.
Plz help me, what are the reasons for low number for me
-
When did Dell offer less than 1333MHz ram for the 1645?
-
This is the limit
I re-run the assessment and now it is showing 6.7 for both graphics and gaming graphics...
This is not the best way to test the system, thats for sure
-
I'm pretty sure they don't. They use 1066 ram for the 1647s, because the i5 series memory controllers only do do 1066, but for the i7s it should be all 1333.
-
Oh, and I get 7.0, 7.3, 6.7, 6.7, 5.9
-
Cpu: 6,9
Ram: 7,3 - 7,4
Graphics: 6,7
Gaming: 6,7

Dell Xps 1645, I7-720, 4gb 1333mhz, Hd4670, 320gb 7200rpm -
well i have those 2x2GB with 1066 MHz
-
That sucks, I'd complain to Dell, they might offer replacements. When did you get your 1645? Oh, and what model RAM did they give you?
-
i dont have any problems with that because it looks like my ram is working better than 1333mhz ram (score 7.7 as against 7.4)
my only problem is that this laptop heats up very much(got motherboard,HDD,Heatsink,Fan and thermal insulation replaced once but still the problem persists), i think i m gonna ask for replacement.
what do you think how should i go about it.
edit: I reinstalled my windows and now i get 7.3 for ram, rest remain the same.
cant trust those WEI score
