Around the 1st of May the prices for the xps 16 were quite reasonable with my customised system hitting out at about £1100 with the 10% coupon, due to my dad being a I-must-see-it-before-I-buy-it person we didn't get it right then. Ever since though, the prices have been racking up siginificantly (just to get the RGBLED screen it costs £245 now). Is this just because Dell feel that they can charge this much because it;s in such demand at the moment or are they planning to have a huge rebate in the near future or is this going to continue untill the the sales decrease to a point of having left over stock?... or is this even something to do with the new graphics they are planning to put in in the near future so that they can slowly ramp up the price s people don't really notice and then charge the same for the better graphics while bumping the price of the 3670 card down large amounts to get rid of the stock?

Who knows; it may simply be related to the cost of the components they use increasing. In any case, whilst Dell are relatively inexpensive compared to high street retailers, they have never been the most cost effective way of buying a new laptop.
-
I've noticed the price increases on both the 13 and 16, it's pretty disgusting really I think.
As for Dell being inexpensive hmmm I don't think so compared to other manufacturers that use better components. Any sort of customisation bumps the price up a lot more plus also other manfacturers put in a 2 year warranty back to base as standard and Dell only has 1 year. -
I said inexpensive compared to retail outlets, i.e. the high street. Look for the same spec as a Dell on the high street in the UK and it is almost guaranteed to cost more, unless you're looking at maybe ACER - which I wouldn't touch with a 12 foot barge pole after having two of them in the past.
The UK high street computer prices are just plain daft imho. Now if you are comparing to other online retailers, or in another country, now that is a different story. -
Truth be told, XPS is a premium line, there are planty of cheap alternative options. But for quality, you have to pay...

They recently downgraded the 500gb hard-drive from 7200rpm to 5400rpm

I just don't understand why the prices have rised so rapidly, I'm kinda kicking myself now for not getting it when the prices were better
-
AFAIK, this has been the case with the M1330 as well. It started out cheap then the price shot up. It's probably Dell's way of getting the buzz out by offering an introductory price.
Honestly, it's not worth it to try to time when to buy a computer. Just get it when you need it. -
I expect it to go up further once they've introduced the 4670/new line XPS.
-
Would that make the 3670 line go down in price then? I don't really see the need for that much power because it will increase the heat output and decrease the already virtually absent battery life. I don't really care too much about graphics provided it plays recent games at ok settings which the 3670 does fine at, I just don't really want to go near integrated graphics because it fails at anything recent

Ill pay any price to avoid Nvidia

Dell seems to be really overcharging for the XPS Line....
A lot of manufacturers have LED as a standard.....e.g. Thinkpads
Configuring a Dell and a Thinkpad (SL series) with similar components....Dell comes out more expensive most of the time...and comparing reviews.....it seems the Thinkpad is as good if not a better laptop.....
Plus Dell does not have the option for a Blu Ray which annoying (Thinkpad SL has an option for only $150)
and only the XPS line seems to have a HDMI port...
HP has te HDMI port standard across all pavilion notebooks.....
I think Dell did a bad job with their supply chain management and hence are trying to get rid of old compnents (e.g. DVD writers) under their "premium" line of notebooks......
