So i have a list of specs that i think would make a great Studio XPS 16 refresh to compete with the recently released MBP15". I posted it to Dell's Ideastorm page to hopefully give them a clue as to what the market is really looking for given the release of the MBP.

Check it out and hit the promote button if you agree!!!!!!!

    MUST HAVE SPECS:
    --------------------
    Intel Arrandale processor
    - IGP & Energy Efficient
    - i5 430M/520M/540M or i7 620M

    Intel HM55 Chipset
    - Supports Switchable graphics

Monitor that can do at least 1080p
    - your Flagship can have nothing less
    - RGBLED would be a very nice option
    - Anti-glare (matte, not glossy)

    HDMI output jack
    - HDMI is here, and is now a standard interface that everyone uses. It is a necessity.
    - If you must support standard VGA, include a HDMI->VGA adapter.
    - Do whatever you want with Displayport. People aren't using it right now, and it will only add to the cost.
    - DO NOT think that having a Displayport jack instead of a HDMI jack is acceptable. THIS IS A DEAL BREAKER.

    Gigabit Ethernet & Wireless N
    - duh

    Battery Life
    - 7-8 Hours on IGP is the standard
    - This means a 9-Cell battery, or some such equivalent.

    Support for switchable graphics
    - This is a feature that all flagship notebooks will have from here on out.
    - The choice of NVIDIA Optimus, a hardware switching solution, or some other technique is your choice.
    - The whole point of switchable graphics is to pair a low power GPU with a high power one. This means nothing less than a Tier 2 discrete GPU. (the MBP uses a NVIDIA 330. This is your baseline)

    Discrete GPU
    - ATI 5650/57xx/5830 w/ 1GB of GDDR3
    - ATI mobile GPUs are more power efficient from a performance per watt comparision, as well as price for performance
    - ATI 5xxx support DirectX 11

    - NVIDIA 335 or better; or 4xx (Fermi) w/ 1GB of GDDR3 or better

    Good Ventilation
    - So that you can use your laptop on your lap

All of the above- in a 12" 14" and 16" the 12 would have an external drive bay... be ulta portable with UV processors... But have XPS sound and video capabilitys.. No IG as stand alone -
