Hey all, I stumbled upon these forums a little while ago as I was trying to decide what laptop to purchase. As you can see, I ended up choosing the Studio XPS 1647 :)

It should be shipped in a week or two, and I was wondering what recommendations you all had for it. I plan on reformatting it to get rid of all the bloatware and also undervolting it.

I'll use it as a desktop replacement and occasionally play some games on it (probably nothing too demanding though). So any suggestions on what to do to start off right and keep it healthy?

    Thanks!

Talk to Dell tech support and get a 130 watt adapter if your Dell came with a 90 watt adapter. It'll coincide with the A4 BIOS update to stop throttling on very demanding games.

The adapter itself it a little thicker, but it's a slim model, which is better than a brick.

Does 1647 need the 130watt adapter?

    I've got the 90.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I know that you'd want the 130watt for hte 1645 for sure, is this the case as well for the 1647?

I don't think the 130W has any effect on the performance of the 1647 (maybe marginal at best). But the 90W adapter is reported to produce the same amount of heat as a nuclear power plant so the 130W is better if you want a cooler adapter.

Alright, thanks for the info. I was looking at the specs in your sig, and they're pretty much the exact same as the laptop I'm about to get. Have any ideas on what you're going to do on it right as you get it? :)

For me, I'm going to call in for the 130W adapter and reformat the sucker with a clean copy of Win7 Pro.

Cool thanks, I'll try to get my hands on a 130W too. And I think I was reading that a new BIOS is out, so I'll try to check that out.

I'm gonna go home and pick it up in a few hours! Any last minute suggestions? :)
