Doubtless, the sxps 16 was one sexy little creature and a trailblazer too-
-first laptop I ever used with BOTH hdmi and displayport- and yes, ive needed to make use of both.
-first laptop to offer 1080p rgb led at that screen size- 16 inches
-graphics card that could mostly keep up with the high resolution screen, especially latterly, with the mobility radeon 4670 and 5730.
-first laptop I used with a backlit keyboard-aint no going back, folks!

The XPS 15, by contrast, is one ugly looking M.F. Nevertheless it still represents a significant step forward principally because of-
-nvidia optimus, though we cant seem to get the core i5 and 435m combination we all dearly want using current configurations
-usb 3.0- which while overdue, means we have no longer have any dedicated usb 2.0 slots connected directly to the southbridge. The usb 2.0 speeds we will get via the usb 3.0 ports will be sub-optimal as these are discrete standalone chips, and will significantly slower than what we are used to. Still usb 3.0 x 2 is welcome.
-uprated sound via JBL speakers-though this remains to be seen (or heard)
    -on board tv card
-SDXC compatible 9-in -1 card reader.
-sata 600 via sandy bridge's southbridge next year- hello 2011 ssd's!!!
    -Nvidia 3d and hdmi 1.4
    -720p webcam

    Downsides are

-Loss of the true RGB LED screens (now we get B + RG- whatever that is?)
-Loss of vga port-for the old-fashioned
    -Loss of expresscard port
    -No dedicated usb 2.0
    -ugly aesthetics

Oh, didn't know that USB 2.0 through 3.0 would be slower than before. Bad port then.

The JBL Subwoofer is nothing special.

They should've put 5830 into XPS 15 since they weren't giving us Optimus anyway.
