Ok, first real problem with the XPS15, with the touchpad...
While the two-finger scroll works nicely in a lot of apps once you've set some sensible settings... it's not actually sending mousewheel messages to Windows. It looks like it's actually searching for scroll bars within applications?
This means that some applications, it just doesn't work. For example, paint packages that use the mousewheel to zoom. Or games. And also a piece of software that I'm developing, that relies heavily on a mouse wheel for zooming.
It even crashed Paint Shop Pro 7 (old, but I still use it...) when I repeatedly did the 2-finger scroll...
This is a bit rubbish. Is there any way (hacked drivers? third-party software?) to make this thing behave, and just send mouse wheel messages?
Oh, the default settings are terrible - to make it behave, the settings you want to fix are:
Standard Windows mouse settings:
- Vertical scrolling - 1 line at a time (smoother scrolling)
Synaptics device settings:
- Scroll item under pointer (not Scroll Selected Item, or it'll often not scroll until you click again to refocus a window)
- Enable auto-scrolling OFF (this makes it feel very broken if on. as it defaults to!)
- Scrolling Speed - 50%-ish, personal preference

I wouldn't prefer gaming nor software developing with the touchpad, but I haven't occured any problems so far. You have to get used by it's sensitivity though, but I can't come up with anything that doesn't "scroll" for me.
I don't know about any hacked drivers yet.. Don't think they'll be out very soon. -
You can also do a 2-finger zoom by putting 2 fingers on the touchpad and either 'pinch' or 'expand' them to zoom. That works for me in all paint and photo editing programs (though I don't have photoshop, I'd assume it would work there as well). You may be out of luck for games though.
