I have a XPS M1530 with the specs that are in my signiture. Something odd has just seemed to happen though. I am running almost no programs, and I look in the task manager and not much memory is taken up and hardly any CPU is taken. But my system seems to be lagging a bunch, like when I am trying to do something quick in Paint, it will take a while for the print window to load. This computer should not be lagging like this, what could be the problem?

Have you tried a complete virus scan? Also you could try disabling indexing service and see if it feels better.

    I have the same problem.

I have the same spec as you but a 250gb hdd.

My desktop only has a dual 4400+ athlon, now thats no were near as powerfull as the lappy but yet my desktop seems so much faster.

It starts faster, it loads pages faster, It plays movies faster.

Sorry to highjack, but just backing you up.

    T8300
    250GB 5400RPM
    8600GT
    MIDNIGHT BLUE.
    DVD/RW

P.S. Could it be becuase my deskptop is hooked directly up to the internet and my laptop is using the wireless, would that slow things down?

How old are these computers and how many programs have you installed? You tend to find that, no matter how fast the machine is, it tends to bog down after a while. Only solution I really found for my laptop was a clean OS reinstall.

Internet speed would only affect the speed you do things on the web, it would not affect the rest of the computer.

I dont know about the poster, but I have done a clean install as too much bloat.

I have done a hd tune and seems fine, with temps of 45 degrees.

and have the lappy since april 1 08

I have only had the laptop since the begginning of June of this year. And I did a clean install of vista the first night that I had it. I do not have an extreme amount of stuff installed either, since I am trying to keep it clean since it is mainly meant to take to class and not as my mainstream computer.

I don't really see the need for a defrag considering its a pretty new system and he say' its pretty clean with not much in it... But if you wanna try a defrag, I would very highly recommend JkDefrag instead of the windows builtin defrag.

If your system's as clean as you say, you should be able to save the files you need on a USB and just go for another clean install. Otherwise, play around with the Advanced Power Settings and see if anything's holding it back. Although, often the CPU and GPU don't perform at their maximum because it's usually not needed; see if yours isn't auto-compensating for this.
