I ordered an xps m1530 the other day, but the t8300 wasn't an option at the time. The day after I ordered, they replaced the t8100 that was in my configuration with the t8300, for the same price.

I'm going to be using the laptop for school work and any games it can handle.

Is it worth it to go through the trouble of canceling the order and then re-ordering it with the t8300?

Well, if you're not stressed for time then sure, go for it. In general usage, the T8100 and T8300 will perform pretty much the same. But since it's the same price, why not ;)

first try talking with a rep and seeing if they can change it for you without canceling and reordering

    Thanks for the quick replies

I actually tried talking with a rep. My dedicated rep apparently. The other reps just tell me to email him lol Thing is, in the middle of our discussion on this, he went home! He's off until tuesday.

I'm going to try again tomorrow, but if the performance of the two is more or less the same, I might as well not go through the trouble of canceling and ordering it again if they can't just change it before it enters production.

I agree with the above, don't worry unless its an easy upgrade. You can always OC a bit and squeeze that extra performance. The important thing is that you have the 8 series CPU, thus cutting heat issues. Congratulations on your new laptop an good luck :)

like everyone already said, the performance will not be night and day. if u aren't on a time crunch AND the prices are the same...then why not reorder?

after dell starts the production process on yur notebook, they will tell u they cannot change anything unless u cancel and reorder.

I think T8300 is worth it if you can wait.

There are four recommended 45ns Penryn for m1530 and m1330.
The biggest step up is between T8100 to T8300.
    T8300 is almost 15% faster(0.3Ghz) then T8100.

You may not notice the speed day to day but if you run video encoding you will notice the speed.

    --------------------
    T9500 2.6Ghz 6Mcache.
    T9300 2.5Ghz 6Mcache.
    T8300 2.4Ghz 3Mcache.
    T8100 2.1Ghz 3Mcache.

or u could convine him to give u a $50 credit (upgarde from T8300->T8100 = $50).... if u dont really care about speed.... u will only notice it for video encoding, compressing.....

What I don't understand is why most notebooks offer either T5xxx series and then jump to T8xxx. Why don't they cut out the T5xxx and use the T7xxx as entry level instead? Is it just cheaper to use the T5xxx instead?

Yes, like Houstoned stated , once your order is in *production* you cannot, change, add, or delete. You will have to cancel and reorder completely. ;)

So, I would keep that in mind..while you figure out what you are going to do!

    Good luck! :)

    Cin ;) :)

I am sure the oems are getting the 5xxx at dirt cheap prices. but even still. if it was only 1 dollar cheaper they would do it. 1 dollar x 1 million computers is a million bucks.
