I've been using the TB15 dock with my XPS 9550 and Logitech Z-2300 THX Speakers for a few weeks now. When it works it sounds great, but frequently the sound turns to static anywhere from a few minutes to an hour after powering up. I have all the latest thunderbolt/dock drivers loaded. I've been able to demonstrate this same problem with headphones plugged into the dock as well. Does not seem to be related to volume. Currently only using Ethernet, speaker out, and DisplayPort on the dock.

Anyone else having speaker/headphone out problems with the TB15, or is this perhaps a problem with my particular hardware? Anyone know the difference between the front and rear speaker/headphone jacks on the dock?

    Thx, Dave

I'm using speaker out from TB15 with my speakers and subwoofer. I have not heard any static noise and the sounds comes out great even listening to streamed music from the internet. I have my speaker system plugged to the jack in the back of TB15. I assumed front is if I want to have hard wired headphones but I doubt I would use that since my speaker system has control unit with volume controls and jack for headphone which is easier to access for my setup.

I'm using HDMI port on the dock but I'm not sure if that should make a difference for static sound coming out the audio jack. Have you tried updating various sound drivers?

I have these items under my device manager sound section..
    - Bluetooth Hands-free Audio 12.0.1.718
    - Intel Display Audio 8.20.0.659
    - NVDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM) 1.2.34.0
    - Realtek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.7628
    - Realtek USB Audio 6.3.9600.41

Thanks SonyHome, I have all the same drivers except for the NVDIA, did you pick that up by getting video drivers directly from Nvidia?

I'm starting to think this is a hardware problem with the particular unit I have.

I think either Windows Update or Nvidia update installed the new driver. I would contact Dell to see what they say and if they can't fix it definitely try to return for an exchange.
