well, you could forward your discovery to dell technical support and mentioned something about how you found out...... and if you're lucky, ask some incentive for your hardwork. :)

you may get some freebies or something. :)

I'm actually quite confused about your problem... Are you saying that Imgburn is not finalizing your disc? Or it's not cycling on verify mode after it burns and finalizes the disc?

From what i understand based on the picture you posted was that the only problem it encountered was on the verify mode where it needs to cycle the disc tray to be able to verify or scan the disc if the burned copy has no errors. Surely it won't cycle automatically since most (or maybe all) laptop drives cannot cycle by itself. It is definitely unlike most dektop DVDRW Drives that has the mechanism to load/unload the disc using a physical button. laptop drives with tray can be ejected using soft ejecet, meaning from the OS, or using the physical eject button but that same button can't be used to close the tray. You have to manuall push it. Most slot loading drives like the m1530 can only be ejected using the softtouch control or rightclicking the drive in the OS and eject it.

I have an M1530 and tried to recreate your problem the only one i encountered is the same as in your pics where it needed to verify the burned image. All I did was to manually insert the disc back in and press ok button. I'm sure though that it will finalize before verify. This is not a problem at all. In the future if you don't wan't this "error" to come up just uncheck the verify option before or during the image burning process.

I hope i understood what you meant. correct me if i'm wrong.

    Goodluck..

    Dear escalera

thanks alot for your good words and solutions
i will show you more about this problem step by step
let say that i want to burn data CD
i open Nero and drag and drop files and start burning process
    1- lead on: pass
2- the burn running well :pass
3- lead out "Finalize" : failes - its stop and giving error

whn i enter the burned CD i found it Blank !!!
what happen is the data alredy written but the cd not finalized so the system canot see it

you can see the data through this way: open Nero Burning ROM - from multi session choose "continuo multi session disk" and then u will find that the CD is still opened and u can continuo adding data>> press ok and u will see the last data alredy written

so the DVD not closing last session till windows can read the CD !!

    i hope u got it

    Alaa

The BIOS has little to no effect on the burning ability of your slot-load drive.

ok so your problem lies in Nero and not in imgburn. Have you tried using another brand of the CD or DVD?

If i understand it correctly, the BIOS will not affect the burning quality of the DVDRW. The issues related to drive burning quality and everything else drive related is relies on the firmware of the drive itself. So far i've not seen any firmware updates for TEAC DVDRW DVW28SLC. BTW this is the same drive that my M1530 came with. So far i've had no problem with burning anything yet. Ive used GQ and Verbatim brand both CD and DVD, FYI.

Your problem can be a combination of a couple of things:
    1. It can be an issue with Nero itself - try using another software. If Imgburn can finalize your CD or DVD then it maybe an issue with Nero.
    2. Make sure you chose to finalize your media when using the multisession. It maybe that since you are in multisession it is not automatically configured to finalize the disk since its main purpose is for you to be able to add more files later on.
    3. If its not finalizing at all it can be that the optical lens or laser of the drive is failing. I've had that happened to me on my desktop where my drive has problems burning and finalizing on different brand of discs. It turned out that my optical lens is going bad and when i replaced the drive everything went back to normal.
    4. Since i've not read many people complained about your finalizing issue it could be that it can be a Nero issue or the drive is going bad as i mentioned earlier.

My advice would be to play with different settings or use different burning sofware and see if you experience any common problem and then draw your conclusion from there.

    Goodluck again.

    hello
i think NP in Dell laptop Bios
but i think the DVD need to firmware to able to finalize the CDs normally
the burning process working good "any volume of date"
    so what u say ?

note: another CDS tested and another Appz tested too

I Googled the "session fixation error" in your log that led me to this : http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=64167. Although the original poster's unit is a desktop, the error generated is the same and maybe applicable to your problem. Check out post #8 cause he might've solved the issue about the "session fixation error" which is linked to an ASPI issue that had happened to quite a few people and has been discussed previously on other posts.

You'll notice that they are talking about the "force package solution" that seemed to have solved some guys problem with burning discs. You may want to try their method. I've never had problem burning on my M1530 so i can't tell you whether this is effective or not. You can also try Googling "session fixation error" which will have so many hits related to that particular error.

Also, Check out this site http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm which has the "ForceASPI" info on how to do the "force" solution.

I'm running out of ideas as to what your problem might be. You can try uninstalling your DVDRW drive from the device manager, restart, then let windows detect it and install it back or you can look for driver updates and then try to update the drivers. Also, try to hookup an external DVDRW, if you have or can borrow one, and see if you can recreate the problem. If you recreate the problem then your problem lies within Windows. BTW which windows are you using? Vista or XP? if you are having success burning on the external drive then your problem may be the M1530 internal DVD writer.

It could also be a corruption in the registry of the burning program built into windows. My last resort will be to repair install your windows or a complete reinstall and see if that solves your problem.

First things first though. KEEP A BACKUP of all your important files and a mirror image (ghost image) of your existing OS before performing any Windows repair or complete reinstall.

I'm running out of ideas. I'll post whatever i missed if there are some.

Try an external DVD Writer. If the problem is still there then do a complete reinstall of windows. If your problem remains then i'm sorry to tell you, there's nothing more i can think of to solve your problem.

what XP service pack version are you running? SP 1, 2, or 3. If you're running A12 BIOS try downgrading to A09. I'm not sure downgrading the BIOS will help but it's worth a try.

    Thanks Ala'a,

I am having the same problem and I was following you posts from forum to forum. I will try your solutions, so its mostly Sony CD issues with multi sessions. I will stay away from Sony then.

    Thank you,

    Tarek, UAE

    Hi Alaa.....
I seem to have a related problem on my DELL XPS M1530 with TEAC DVD+-RW DVW28SLC
It cannot read certain CDs. It detects them as blank disks and I can see "702 MB free of 702 MB"
It detected the DELL Webcam CD which came with the laptop though - one of the very few CDs it detected.
My BIOS version is A12. I downgraded to A08 and A09 but it did not work.
It says I cannot downgrade to A05 because my hardware will not support it.
Additionally, I would like to add that this problem has probably arrived after I have upgraded my Windows Vista to Windows 7.

    Config:
    DELL XPS M1530
    2.1 GHz T8100, 3GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 8600GT
    Windows 7

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
