So I was still confused about whether or not the SXPS Samsung SSDs would be able to accept the future firmware update (and thus be able to support TRIM). I contacted Dell's tech support via email and was told that the drives will support TRIM (though on 2 occasions he called it TRIP). I am not inspired by his lack of knowledge regarding the proper term and dont think that he is right. If I save the email would this help my case of getting a SSD from Dell in the future that does actually support TRIM?

If you've got the PB22, it should support TRIM... eventually. Afaik, Samsung's planning to implement the feature, but I haven't heard any concrete wheres or hows. Dell will probably issue a firmware update when it happens...

How do I know what controller I am using?? PM800 or PB22??

    I have (2) MMCRE28GFMXP-MVB in RAID 0, with firmware VBM18S1Q...

Will I be able to eventually get Garbage collection features or at least TRIM?

The PM800 and PB22-J are the same drive(s) with the same controller... but MMCRE28GFMXP is a last-gen RBX MLC. As far as I know, it will never have GC, and it will never have TRIM.

That's a PB22-J derivative, so again, it should support TRIM in the future, but not now.

What about Garbage Collection - I believe it is already active in some versions, but how do you know if you have it?

    I have the PM800 256GB SSD with firmware VBM19D1Q.

Garbage collection is mystery no body can confirm it works when idle, when performance falls users just bring it to do factory settings to gain speed again.

All flavors of the PB22-J now support TRIM. You just have to find a way to update your drive to the latest firmware revision.
