So, what do you think this year has in store for the M1730, lets say... in August?

    Choices are either

-New model (M1750) with Montevina DDR3 Ram
    OR
    -Montevina Refresh for M1730
    OR
-No refresh for the rest of 2008

    Bets are open!

If they release a new model, it will perhaps be based on the M1730 chassis, but I bet it won't be called an M1730.

It would make sense for the next 'beast' from Dell to feature a 9xxx series Nvidia card as well.

I certianly can't see any model released in the next 12 months featuring DDR3 RAM. Apart from the small point as to the (un)availability of DDR3 SO-DIMM's, it's a massive expense for very little gain. DDR3 has some way to go before being mainstream even on the desktop.

That the next model would feature the latest Intel CPU is a no-brainer. New CPU's & new chipset enabling a 800 or even 1066MHz bus would make a good selling point to enthusiasts (and would steal some thunder from the same claims of Clevo laptops). I haven't looked at Intel's roadmap, but I would not be surprised to see quad-core notebook parts being planned.

I'm due an upgrade in the distant future (between 24 and 30 months away) and I can guarantee that my next laptop will be quad-core and feature something rather special from Nvidia. Hopefully also an OLED display (the one thing that would drive me to upgrade early, should one become available), DisplayPort, powered eSATA, USB wireless and a battery that lasts more than an hour!
