So I was at my mums house with my M1330, (Yes I know..) and to skip to the point she spilt a bit of tea on it, The lid was shut but it must have got into the laptop somehow because if you press the power button on the laptop now all that happens is it stays on for 3 seconds and makes a weird noise and turns off.
I don't have any accidental insurance from dell or my home insurer so i'm really stuck on what to do now. The laptop originally cost £700 so it would be nice if some of you could HELP![]()

How far does it go on boot ? where is noise come from?
Let it sit for bit maybe try put close heat source or flip over you sure you got all tie out of it long you can let sit dry is better -
The screen never changes from black, The noise it makes is the one like if you had a perfectly normal m1330 and you were in windows and you decided to shut it down by keeping in the power button.
-
Sigh... This is when CompleteCare would've been your best friend.
Remove the battery, press the power button down for a couple of seconds to drain all remaining energy, flip the 1330 on it's backside, and wait at least 24 hours before inserting the battery again and pressing the power button.
If that doesn't work, you might've just gotten "own3d" -
If you're able, you might want to take the machine apart as far as you're comfortable, and wipe away any liquid you find. Everything else andy has recommended sounds good to me. I'd probably let it dry out for a few days before cranking it up again.
-
Completecare isn't avalalible in the UK , But yes accidental was...
-
This is kind of off topic, but does Complete Care cover liquids? This would be a bad move on Dell's part if it did.
-
Nevermind, I looked it up.
It does cover spills. I figure they wouldn't do this. To many people would 'accidentally' get it wet or something. -
) and if it doesn't boot up, it's toast anyway so u might as well try and open it up to wipe away any residue and see if that works.

I once saw a very detailed thread somewhere. But I can't remember now- will post it if i find it. Anyway, see the followings:

I've just "disected" the laptop , Well when I say disected I took off the plastic to the MoBo, to the WWAN card and had a look and saw no tea, I also took off the hinge covers and the blue LED light strip thing and again saw no moisture. It still won't do anything different atm.

By the way , How exactly do you get to the DVD drive bit, Do I have to unscrew everything ? , Whats quite annoying is I have a Call of duty 4 disc still in it and being a slot load dvd drive it has no pin eject button..
-
If you go to the Dell site you probably can find a manual for your machine which will give assembly/disassembly instructions. Not sure where exactly to look, but if there's a "Support" link, I'd probably start looking there. Hope this works out for you. Good luck.

Been on the phone to a dell person (yes he had a very annoying accent) and even though I don't have accidental cover with dell he's sending a techie next week to come fix it .. Thumbs up Dell! Somehow I think he's gonna try to replace the motherboard..
-
Wow, your luck just turned around!
-
Theres a pinhole somewhere in the DVD drive's bezel. Stick a paperclip in there and poke around. It will automatically eject the drive. Its called the Emergency eject.
-
Flipfire , I'm pretty certain I can't see a hole for the paperclip. Pretty sure there isn't one as it's a slot load.. But thanks for trying

hi
i wondered if you got your problem fixed. i have just had the same problem to my dell inspiron 5100 and i did as the manual said and dried components such as the battery, hard drive etc and switched it off and allowed it dry for 24 hous later and only the light comes on. i am just worried as i have a lot of documents on that computer. -
Funnily enough I am the luckiest man in the world.
I did let it dry for a little, and it worked sometimes on and off, but it wasn't very usable so I rung dell, expecting to have to foot a massive bill.
Apparently, when I purchased it they had a special offer that gave 1 year accidental for free , something I was totally oblivious to until the rep told me and I entered my service tag on the dell website. So they replaced the motherboard, though it lasted 2 hours, they replaced the mobo again, but I had blue lines on the screen. So they replaced the screen and by then the techies had pretty scratched it up. So pushing my luck even further I told dell about the scratchs and uneven bezel and they issued a replacement. Which I am typing on now... -
awesome!
never had to use my accidental coverage but it is there when i drop it or my wife knocks it over or i spill something, all of these things i can see happening all the time but i suppose because i would get a new machine if it actually got screwed up, it never really happens. but whatever, i am happy
