Hey,
I would like to install an 32GB SSD drive into my M1730. Is there any manuals online to do this? OR, how can I find a local dell technician to maybe do it for me... for a charge of course.
Second, will this drive work:

Thanks!!

Just follow this guide:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsm1730/en/sm/hdd.htm#wp1109848
And yes that SSD will work. -
I would not buy that SSD - it is very slow and accordingly, the reviews for that are quite poor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16820208317
You pay for you what get - don't expect to get anything outstanding without spending at least $500 for a 32GB SSD. -
squawks,
Yea, I figured it wasn't the best when comparing prices. I was trying not to spend more than $200 on an SSD drive, maybe ill look at the 16GB drives.
Thanks for the tip.

What do you guys think about this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609302
its 300, will this work? Basically, am I looking for any 2.5" SATA SSD?
This one seems pretty good, its got a great read and ok write:
Sequential Access - Read: 120 MB/s(max)
Sequential Access - Write: 40MB/s (max)
What do you guys think?

Honestly, unless you are going to get the OCZ drive with the Samsung SSD which is over $1000, I'd just stick with a nice 7200 RPM drive.
-
So you don't think its worth putting in this SSD drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609302
??
The one your referring to is only:
Sequential Access - Read: up to 100MB / sec
Sequential Access - Write: up to 80MB / sec
So better write... and your also quoting the 64GB drive, the 32GB of OCZ is only $500... however, I will still have my 7200 as my second drive. I'm just looking for a bit better performance for the system.
Any more thoughts?
Thanks

Only the OCZ in either 32 or 64 GB is going to beat regular drives.
-
OCZ, Mtron, Samsung, Memoright will all do this if you are looking for a slc ssd.
Mlc ssds are cheaper. -
Les,
Thanks for the tips... what about this one:
Mtron SSD 2.5" 16GB SATA solid state disk MOBI 3000
(I saw your review with the 32GB, I would assume this would be similar performance)
I can find these for $350... in my price range, I'm basically looking for it to house my operating system and any other apps that I want faster access to... or is abt correct in that I won't see any better performance than my 7200 RPM drive???
Thanks
Jeff. -
not much performance upgrade for the money ur paying a 7.2k drive or a 10k WD raptor costs less and performs better. right now SSDs are new tech and need to be improved upon till it becomes more standard. wait a couple of years, better and less expensive SSDs will come.
-
I think you are determined to buy an SSD, which is fine. But if you wanted to save money and get good performance opt for a high density 5400 RPM HD or fast RPMs if you don't want that much space. SSDs are too fresh right now and Samsung is planning on having 256 GB SSDs by December 2008 or early 2009 so I am holding off personally.

Thanks for you guys help!
