How surprising? Red dells are pretty nice though, maybe you could take a pic of all your red dells and photoshop it to make like it's blood flowing out of your veins onto the laptops?

    Maybe i'm just too eccentric

    cin,

the rep should be able to give you the 3 yr warranty for no cost. A friend of mine just bought a xps 16 for school using his epp discount. While ordering on the phone, the rep asked about extending his warranty. My friend replied that he would rather go with Squaretrade or put a rider on his renters insurance. When asked why he told the rep that he's dealt with extended warranties and he's sick of the run around. The rep replied that he could give him 3 years for free or 4 years for $100 extra.

Not surprising! :p  Yes, the color is very nice.
(Now what a truly unique idea! I hadn't thought of doing that....) Maybe a tad eccentric..but were all unique individuals! :)
    Thoughts on the config?

Ooh very good idea...He already told me he would throw in a *camera* if I purchased, so I don't know if I can get him to do both. :)

Doesn't hurt to try. I will talk to him tomorrow...was to tired to reply to him earlier tonight. 3 years warranty at no cost, sounds really good.. :D

    Cin ;) :)

I don't know whether my experiences are typical or if the definition of heat is just widely varied.

My CPU is typically in the high 30s or low 40s if it's on my lap doing nothing heavy. Games like Oblivion and HL2 kick it up into the 50s on the 9400 (which runs those level of games just fine).

I definitely don't run anything too heavy on the 9500 if it's on my lap, but the fan noise is more annoying than the heat in that case anyway. I actually don't run the 9500 too much so I don't remember what temps it gives me.

Subjectively, it certainly doesn't feel any warmer than most other laptops I've really touched. My sister's Mac is definitely not a cool machine, and forget about my friends' HPs.

I've seen posts for laptops with T-line processors around here with temps in the 70s and whatnot, so I don't see how it is really that hot.
