I have a Dell XPS M1330 PC and am currently using a trial version of Everest Ultimate to monitor primarily its temperature, but I also use it occasionally to check its components. The trial version ends in 8 days and I am looking for another software monitoring program, preferably freeware, to replace it, but I am also willing to pay reasonably for quality monitoring software.

Reviewing the posts on the Notebook Forums, HWMonitor seems to be widely recommended and used. Would you agree or do you have other recommendations for accurate temperature monitoring software? Is there any freeware that can monitor the various functions of the M1330 PC like Everest does?

I also had a question about the Everest Ultimate monitoring program (made by Lavalys). I found the following on the Lavalys website:

    ---------------------------------------
    http://www.lavalys.com/support.php?category=22&lang=en

Q#21:Is it possible to detect temperatures, voltage values and fan status of Dell computers?

A#21 :Dell computers use a proprietary sensor chip that is undocumented and so cannot be supported by EVEREST.
    ---------------------------------------

If Everest indeed cannot detect temperatures of Dell PCs, would this limitation also be true for the other monitoring programs such as HWMonitor? Despite the Lavalys statement, the Everest trial version seems to be monitoring my GPU temperatures validly. Any thoughts about this?

    Thanks,
    PG

I use Everest Ultimate on my XPS 1530..and I love it...I have it set to monitor my Sensor Icons, and it monitors my Temps on my Task Bar.

It's an awesome system. Since I've had 2 GPU failures..this is the only one I like using!

This monitor's my GPU's temperature just fine.. :)

    Yes it does...

Thanks much for the varied suggestions. I am intrigued that Everest seems to have quite strong support (Cin and MystiklMayhem) despite Lavalys's (Everest parent company) statement in its FAQ that Everest cannot monitor Dell PCs accurately due to Dell's "proprietary sensor chip". I'm still curious--if users like Cin find that Everest works well in Dell PCs, why the disclaimer from Lavalys?

Perhaps similarly to Cin, I installed Everest Ultimate after my nVidia GPU failure to monitor GPU temperatures; I was unaware that excessive heat must be avoided in CPUs and GPUs until the Dell tech rectifying the nVidia failure alerted me to the issue.

In any case, I'll explore the suggested software and keep Everest under consideration. I welcome any additional suggestions and opinions. Thanks much again to the respondents, past and future.
