    There is no clear mention of what temperatures are fine for the 1640. It would really be great if someone could sum up the optimum idling temp and maximum safe gaming temp.

    THANKS!

    The review on NBR has the measured temps.. it may not be the exact config of your system, but, its close.

    yes the temperature range is in the manual. just go to the dell site to download it.

    most of these questions can be answered before theyre asked if you just poke around the dell site, or the 1640 owners thread.

    @Metroline

    I hope you realise that it is very naive(I would have written "downright stupid" but then NBR seems to be a very sweet forum) to assume that I have not searched around. The only thing that manuals give are the recommended operational ambient temps, unless I missed out some part. So it would be great if you could pass on that info which you seem to have found. I would like the optimum and maximum CPU, GPU and HDD temps.

    Thanks!

    vidurm, here's my idle temps (also usual temps when I have just Firefox, uTorrent, and Yahoo Messenger running):

    CPU 32-36C
    GPU 45-50C
    HDD 38-43C

    When I'm playing Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne

    CPU 56-58C
    GPU 65-67C
    HDD I forgot

    Ambient/room temp 23-24C

    you have to do your homework and check each individual component on the specific model studio xps 16. dell does not manufacture the components, so unless you are looking for the dell recommended ambient temperature you are going to have to find it on the providers site.

    there is no 'one' answer, the ssd will have different temp from the seagate 320 7200, and diff from the 500 5200, so you need to check out those sites. the cpu varies depending on speed, mine is the p8600, and intel gives it a maximum range of 105 c.
