Absolutely fantastic choice! I'm so glad I resisted the temptation of going for the LED backlit screen! The resolution is such a huge deal for me; working with photos that have resolutions going into 5 figures on each side would not have been nice with a small display! There's so much more I can fit on my screen too; I work with multiple monitors on my desktop and to go from that to the resolution that the LED screens have, would have been a massive nightmare!

So anyone who is planning on buying a Dell, using it for much more than just emails, music and myspace, and is on the fence between the two... Don't let the appeal of having screen that "goes bright instantly" disuade you from the bigger picture (no pun intended), that larger screen "real estate" is far more important!

I've looked at the screen grabs people have done of their LED screens and I really am pleased I stuck to my guns with this screen!

Bit of an opinionated post, I guess, but my general point is that the 1920x1200 screen is FANTASTIC! But you must also remain realistic; the bit depth of any laptop screen is never any more than 8-bits, if you're lucky, so you'll never truely replace your desktop computer with a laptop. I've noticed this when working with 16-bit tiffs; the images look great on this screen, but on my desktop, there's no comparison when looking at the finer detail!

That's great that you feel that way....always a good thing to hear positive opinions from other Dell owners! ;) :)

I'm glad things are working out this time, with your new lappy....You have it and it's all yours finally! ;) :)

    Cin ;) :)

P.S. My screen is just a 1440x900 LCD (an LG), and I am very, very happy with it! ;) :)

    Thanks :)

Yeah, just to clarify; I'm not knocking the LED screens, I'm just saying that if you're using the laptop for more than just basic to medium computer use, the 1920x1200 is definatly a very good resolution and means that working in Photoshop, Lightroom, Avid etc is just easier because everything I need is there; I don't have to keep closing and re-opening sub-windows to clear space when I need it.

Nothing compares to 1920x1200... by far the best resolution... and you couldn't have said it better... for people who need to do more, and use the laptop for more serious applications / work, rather than just browsing or chatting and stuff like that, this resolution is super good, IMHO... good luck. Enjoy your system.

    yea, when i saw UXGA on my sister's i8200, i was hooked....it was 1600x1200

    so i bought an i8600 with 1920x1200 :)

and i have a precision M4400 on the way....unfortunately not with the RGBLED screen i wanted with the full colour palate, as they have supply issues and i need it before i travel on the 6th :(

Hey no worries! You can tell your not knocking the LED at all! You got the screen you wanted! And, it works for you, for what you are using it for! A very good thing! ;) :)

In the end it's that *personal choice* on screens, config's, etc..that matters ;) :)

Now, enjoy that lappy of yours!!! ;)

Trust me, dont get this screen unless you want to go blind and suffer from headaches.

    1440x900 is perfect size.

Thats not true.. if people were to go blind and suffer from headaches, then they wouldn't be selling it in the first place.

You could've chosen a better way to convey what you wanted to say.

Use an external monitor if you need to work at this resolution. 22" inch is good

Thankfully I have little interest in playing games on this laptop; the very few games I play, are all run on my desktop.

This laptop is for my work use when I'm not at home with my desktop. For sure I sit in the living room, watching tv with it on my lap chatting to friends online etc. But when I'm actually working, I use my desktop with multiple monitors

Very good job on the selection. Had the 1920x1200 screen been available when I purchased my 1530, I would have gone with that. My main desktop has a 30" LCD running 2560x1600 and I was a little concerned that the 1680x1050 resolution would not be enough, but I am quite please with it.

I agree, i have a 1680x1050 and it is too small for me, the perfect size would have been 1440x900 LED

I tend to stick with 1440x900 for no other reason than accomidating the midrange graphics cards.

If you're happy with you screen, Bazil, than more power to you! Personally I'd find such a high res on a 15 inch screen intolerable. To each his own and all that.

I love my 1920x1200 screen. I use my laptop for work. Mostly spreadsheets and writing reports. I used to use a 1680x1050 20" monitor that barely had the workspace I needed. The 1920x1200 is so luxurious. It makes my job so much easier.

It's also great for multitasking and games aren't that bad at all. I don't see what the big deal about running games at a non-native res is. It's like free anti-aliasing with no performance hit. Besides, I don't play enough games to let them dictate a limited resolution for my computer.

I don't find text too small at all, and in fact I changed the default windows text side from 9 to 8. I understand some people have trouble with the size, and to them, get the 1440x900 by all means. It's probably a very nice screen. Though people who actually think that looking at slightly smaller text will make you go blind should do some reading on basic optometry or something.

1920x1200 its just perfect, its not that small, all looks perfect, and about games, i just play wow, full details, 1920x1200 with many add ons, and i have more than 50fps.

    Great choice, 1920x1200 > *

I'm sure you must have your own reasons for not liking the 1900x1200 resolution but why all the negative posts about going blind?

That resolution has been around since the I8500 was introduced (as far as I can remember) and I dont remember seeing any news about people going blind from it.

I for one love the resolution because as a software engineer I very much appreciate being able to have three split windows side by side so that I can see the big picture (no pun intended) when I'm coding multiple related files.

I posted a screenshot in another thread... from my 1920x1200.. Can the member who was claiming / mentioning about people going blind, please take a look and tell me whats there to go blind in this??? I mean come on.. give a break!!!

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3917386&postcount=3

I personally think this is an unwanted negative opinion being spread here.. and just remember, there are so many people who are new to computers, who come to NBR and all I can see is that such posts are giving them negative and wrong opinions, which I personally think, is against the real purpose of a reputed place like NBR... and IMHO, its unacceptable in a way. Just my thought...

Come on, you guys, Jack is being figurative. Basically he thinks the 1920 x 1200 has font that's too small and will strain your eyes and cause headaches. He doesn't actually believe people will go blind.

He doesn't like the ultra high resolution and he expressed that. There's nothing wrong with Jack's language. It's up to you to interpret it and even if you can't, he has the right to say whatever he wants about any computer brand, component, etc. He is not attacking any individual personally.

This is not a Dell "homers" only forum. If there is room for positivity, there is room for negativity (or criticism or critical opinion). There are 10,000 personalities out there expressing the same and different views in different ways using different language. Let's use some common sense to transcend our own tiny little worlds.

Let's not jump onto the Group Think "bandwagon" based on what 2 egocentric teens and their machismo initiated (not anyone in this thread). Try to INTERPRET others positively. And above all, lighten up. :)

I wish I could have chosen that option for the (1920 * 1200) when I put my order in, but the option was not there, just the resolution I got which is (1440 by 900) and I think so far it looks good, but I would have loved to get a (1920 * 1200).

depends on what you do. I chose the LED and couldn't be more happy. It's always nice to have more screen real estate, but most webpages aren't designed for the larger resolutions. In your case with photo editing you can't go wrong. Anyone wanting to play games and have a very bright, sharp display can't go wrong with the LED.

The 8600m GT just can't handle games at that resolution. Even my 512mb 8800 GT would be struggling a little bit on some games on my desktop

Or buy the E6500 with a 1920x1200 dual lamp display, which could be even brighter than the 1440x900 LED panel.

That's what I have (1440 * 900) and for me it works just fine and I didn't get the Blue Ray option so I don't have a need to watch HD Movies on it, but just regular DVDs.

Man you are just so mature it's killing me. Honestly if you read his posts you would know hes using it for photoshop / lightroom / programs that prefer a higher resolution screen. I love 1920x1200 on my 17" screen and I would get it on a 15" screen as well. I think it's a great resolution providing you do not play games and you have good eye sight.

he may be right on par (maturity) for his age. It seems that there are a lot of young people on here. Sometimes the stuff that comes out of my son's mouth (21 yo) just makes me smile! ;-)

As far as resolution... I too use Photoshop frequently... and really, 1920x1200 is a little less resolution than I would prefer sometimes. I'd like to have a big 'ole 30" widescreen running at 2560x1600.

Screen resolution is purely the user's choice, different people have different preferences. If you don't like it thats fine, if you like it, thats cool too. There is no need to force your opinion on anyone. I love my WUXGA screen, but i know there are many more that doesn't like it or cannot get used to it, thats fine, not everyone needs a WUXGA screen.
