I got a 130w ac adapter and A08 bios, and i think the notebook still throttle.
When i launch Prime95 with Furmark, iTurbo should show the threads fixed at 13, but it doesn't.
...i shut down the LCD (with a little application), and when i come back (10 secs), i see the threads fixed at 13 for only some seconds.... so?
And if i turn Furmark off, and i launch only Prime95, the threads are fixed at 13.
Where is the problem? GPU+CPU toghether? GPU+CPU+LCD ?

    ouch!

When I connect my ipad 3g into a usb port of my 1645 nothing *usually* happens. I did get it to work one time in order to activate the ipad though itunes, but every other time nothing.

Any ideas? I didn't see anything to boost usb port power in the bios.

Hey guys, the speakers are amazing, but... on skype they do crack quite a bit especially when talking to woman, and i do that a lot lol....

no seriously... is that because of the low quality sound? can i do anything about that?

Sorry if this has been asked before but my search turned up nothing.

I just purchased XPS i7 1645 without a SSD from the Dell Outlet. Is it possible to replace the HDD with an SSD? I have seen posts that add an SSD by using the optical drive, but i don't want to lose the Blu-ray player.

What do u guys think about the speakers? they are extremely loud arent they?

It seems when the quality of the sound is low, like when u call on skype, the speakers buzz, crack, hum (?) quite a bit - like u know it from cheap plastic speakers (turning down volume wont work either to reduce it)

The buzzing is NOT constant, mostly high tones and bass...

Does it have anything to do with the IDT SRS Surround? I turned it off, its a bit better. But still I have to turn teh volume of skpe down so much its not funny.

while playing left 4 dead or empire total war the gpu gets to about 82-84 degrees C and the i720qm does about the same. are these temps normal? They seem pretty high for the processor as my old one never got to 80 degrees C

@Goodwood8 Dell was really nice, adn even tho i dont have next day service they come tmw and change teh speakers... and even the mainboard they said. they also said they have never heard of this problem...

im think of upgrading to 3 yrs next day service + accidental warranty. on delsl website it costs 218euros on top of the 2 year warranty (within 6 days) which i have.

the guy from dell offered me 200 euros. but also told me they had special deals from time to time. take this offer and hope the speaker thing wil be fixed? and if not, since some people have this issue, still take this offer?

Also, I used a bluetooth headset and i did hear the crack a tiny bit as well? could that be? maybe it really is the mainboard....

I dont know, its not much of a problem for me and im reluctant to get anything relplaced from dell, if its not a serious problem. from what i've seen, replacements always have even more problems.

Yep same problem here...when i play left 4 dead (1), the temp goes up until it hits 84c, at this point it throttles the GPU from 657MHz to 300MHz. This happens even at 1280x720 rez. Sad thing is i could pay it fine on my old Inspiron E1505 that they replaced :( The 1645 is a great looking machine...just doesn't seem to be able to handle games...even ones a couple years old or older.

Also almost every time a tech has come to my house to work on my computer, i either get bad parts or something else goes wrong :(

yeah, thats a patterns i've been noticing ... which explains my reluctancy. also, i dont know why you guys are having so many problems with the heating. its ok for me, maybe because i've not been using it heavy ... dunno, could it be cuz its refurbished ? also, why not buy a cooling pad, i understand that this machine should be able to handle all that ... but if it cant, either suffer or get a pad right ?

well i guess its too late now to call them and cancel. maybe i can convince him to replace the speakers and sub only?

why do the whole mainboard? how long would he need for that? and will he test it with me?

I still have a week left so i can return it getting my full refund? but i like this laptop. if teh sounds the same after, well ...

Going off on a different tangent here, but it's something I've done in the past and was thinking about again now that I have this awesome laptop. Does anyone here do any Folding@Home with their XPS laptop? When I'm plugged in and only really using my laptop for webbrowsing and playing music, I think it's fun to have the massive CPU in this thing doing a little extra work. I know that Folding@home now has different options for the software to run that will take advantage of multi-core CPUs and newer GPUs, and was wondering if anyone here has played around with this at all. Last time I did this was with my old Athlon 3200+ desktop, and figure my i7-720 might be more suited to this :D

I ordered mine through the outlet, but the details of the order have a 90wat power supply listed. I'll have to call to request a 130 if a 90 shows up Friday or Monday.

hey guys, when i ordered my dell the guy said i could extend the warranty up to 5 years. now that i have problems with speakers i said, oh well lets extend to 3 years next day + accidental warranty.

at the moment i have 2 years within 6 days return + accidental warranty.

ok, well, i asked for an upgrade to 3 years, but the technician said its only possible to upgrade the dell next day service but not the accidental one.

if i knew that i would have chosen 3 years from the start...

Im just past my 2 weeks period where i coudl have returned it, ordered a new one with 3 years.

He said its not Dell that does accidental, its a diff company...

    What shoudl I do?

because you'd be part of the 'project' helping out, more people the faster it completes. Anyhow I tried seti@home but stopped because the fans just kept kicking in, now that's it autumn/winter coming instead of summer maybe it won't be as bad..

I seem to be facing a problem with my DELL WIRELESS BLUETOOTH HEADPHONE. My 1645 is a month old now and recently i formatted my Laptop and Installed a fresh new Win7 x64 Ultimate Geniune .... The laptop seems to be working fine .. Except i am not able to get my audio to the DELL BLUETOOTH HEADPHONE.. Here is wht i did

I Installed my Bluetooth driver and after the Bluetooth Icon appears IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT .... Cliecked on Add a device ..
I entered into the discoverable mode in my headphone(Fast Bliknking Blue light) and the bluetooth detected it and when i click next it configures the device and says the device is ready but neither show in the Control Panel -> Sound nor it shows any Services when i click the properties of the New added device .(Still has the fast blining blue light) . The best part is it gets connect to other laptops like Toshiba , HP etc

Is anyone facing the same problem . Would Apprecriate if anyone has a solution . I called up DELL PERMIUM Technical Support . Even they couldnt slove the issue ..

hey, is running BOINC bad for my laptop / CPU / GPU ? I mean currently its using my full CPU (100%) and like 50-70% of my RAM ... temps are at around 80 ... its not throttling much yet (using a 90W Adapter) although im scared my adapter might melt :/... is it bad for my battery (even though im not surring it on battery)

wow. this machine really is something. i've been running it for over 24 hours, continously, at close to 100% CPU usage for most of the time, and its working just fine.. obviously when i want to do some work I have to reduce the CPU usage from BOINC. But still. and magically, my battery life has increased to 7026 mWH from 6434 - is that even possible ?

So I have had my laptop for a couple of weeks now and I was wondering about something. I have argus monitor and intel turbo boost installed (programs that monitor and display your cpu core speeds)and I used to see turbo boost being enabled and working but for some reason now I never see any of my cores go past 1200 Mhz. Is there a reason why it seems like my turbo boost is not enabled???

This turbo boost thing in itself is a little shady, in my view. My processor is the i7, dont rrmbr which, but it goes upto some 2.8ghz i think ? it used to show that in the system information, not it shows 1.6/ 1.78 instead of 1.6/ 2.8. see, as long as you feel your pc is working fine, i guess its ok.

WOW, yeah...... Dell reps aren't the smartest. They failed you.

Nonetheless the system is awesome if you don't plan on using all of it's nice parts! haha

But on a serious note, it will most likely be warm my friend. Try it out when you get it and if you aren't happy send that POS BACK!
