If you decide to keep the laptop, just use your onsite warranty for the screen. The will come and change it within a couple of days.

I believe so, I was actually quite surprised at this... while playing a FPS I found that a 4th button at times wouldn’t work when 3 others were depressed.

That is standard internet operating procedure. Only people with problems will post. The ones that don't have problems don't post and are happily using their machines... It is completely normal...

    Really weird little problem.

Having trouble playing back my DVDs, used the attached Power DVD, as well as PowerDvd 8 and 9.

Problem is that the Blu-Ray drive seems to just go mad every minute or so, start reading the disc, sounding like it has a bit of problem and then causing stuttering/skipping in the film.

Thing is though, that I can pause the film during this, let it play out and continue after without the skipping, so it's not the DVD.

Also I don't have this problem at all when it runs off battery instead of power supply!

I've updated drivers and messed around with the power options but to no avail. Anyone else found this?

I gotta be honest here, and not to begrudge you at all, the x-fi mb add on isnt that great. I dont even use it. To me it conflicts with the IDT SRS features.

I received my Studio XPS 16 on Monday. I have loaded all the applications I normally use (including PS CS4, LR 2.5, Office 2007 Professional and others). Everything seems to run very well.

I have found one thing I need help with. The computer has an esata port which I want to plug a Vantec Nexstar Dual Bay Drive Dock into. The computer will only recognize one drive in the dual bay drive dock. When I turn the Vantec Nexstar Dual Bay Drive Dock on a splash pops up identifying an Intel Matrix Storage Console 8.9 (Port Multiplier - Intel PCHM SATA AHCI Controller - 6 Port - it states that only one port can be recognized).

I need to know how to configure / setup the Intel Matrix Storage Console 8.9 Port Multiplier so the computer will recognize both hard drives on my external esata dock. By the way I can recognize both drives on the dual bay if I plug the esata cable into an ExpressCard adapter but I want to use the esata port on the computer.

I tried to get help from Dell support and they didn't have a clue to what I was talking about. They switched the subject and insisted I needed to buy a software support contract.

Check out the massive power supply thread in the XPS and S XPS forum. This sounds similar to what was happening to everyone when they were loading up their system with heavy graphics and they experiences stuttering. It is a power supply solution for their issue on i7 machines.

On the Studio XPS 16 the "Intel Matrix Storage Console" is standard equipment. Over time I expect others will have the same question as I do about how to configure the console. In your start "search program and files" type "Intel Matrix Storage Console" and you will see the thing I am wanting to know how configure.

I have spent many hours searching on the web and find many links but the but no answer as to how to configure the console on the XPS (or to technical for me to configure for a port multiplier). For now I have a work around: Use an ExpressCard with esata port which will recognize both drives in my dual bay device. I really want to use the esata port on the XPS which is one reason I purchased this computer.

2by4, Thanks for the link. Actually I had viewed that link and went into the bios to configure as it stated. Although, there is no Raid setting in the bios. Also I think this link indicates that Raid should be set up during the operating system initial install. In the bios I did change the SATA Operation from "AHCI" to "ATA" and the computer would not boot until I changed it back. It got pretty scary because I was thinking I had screwed my system up and possibly lost many hours of application installation work.

At this point I think I will give up until detailed instructions are available for this specific computer.

    Again, Thanks For The Link.

My first post. I've had my xps1645 for about two weeks now. I've been confused about my I7 being reported as a single core with two threads whenever I run CPUID, Prime95, CPUZ, OCCT, etc. Am I missing something, or do I have a defective CPU? My 3DMark scores have been low (06: 3800, Vantage: 2100)!
    Thanks for any ideas.

There's a new firmware update for the hard drive on Dell's driver site for the 1645. I installed and it the drive is much quieter, nearly silent.

Think it's worth installing the new hard drive firmware if I haven't experienced the noise/clicking?

I'm guessing it'll need to be installed via storage other than the hard drive itself?
