Many people have had this issue. Go here https://smartsource.dell.com/Web/Welcome.aspx?ReturnUrl=/web/UserForms/RegisterSystem.aspx and download CyberLink Power DVD DX 8_3 (BD version) then uninstall your current version of power dvd. install this and download the patch as required.

    This process worked for me

OK I lied, I did try again last night. Threw in a copy of WALL-E and it did stream DTS True HD to my receiver. The first blu-ray I tested, the Hangover, didn't stream any HD audio. Weird.

Does anyone have a good method to clean the speaker mesh on both sides of the keyboard? My speaker mesh has a bunch of specs in the mesh

I've been noticing when my room is quiet and the CPU fan is very low, that the harddrive makes these very quiet tiny "Click+whirr" noises. It's never multiple clicks in a row, just a very faint click + a faint whirring noise. Not the standard "harddrive noise", if that makes sense.

Anyone else seen this? Or is this just normal?

Try moving a lot of files back and forth so it crashes and you get a new one from dell ^^. My hard drive is making a typical crrrrr sound, or is that a clock somewhere, not sure, I think mine is soundles. I remember my old pc's always had that crrr sound especially when loading something.

Do you have the latest hard drive firmware installed? It's on the Dell's drivers page. It makes the drive run quieter than before.

I have this on another Dell laptop I occasionally use... it sounds almost like it briefly speeds up and then clicks off, all very quiet. Didn't cause any problems, just sounded funny.

    Hi,

Which firmware are you referring too? I downloaded R250352.exe but when I try to install it tells me that it does not support 64Bit OS even though I selected Win 7 64Bit in the drop-down.

    Thanks,

EDIT: the amazon one doesn't look like it has a cord...max had to get one too.
It looks like the one from amazon is the big one (the one Max got) and it doesn't have the blue light on the end.
Both should work. its the size that matters :)
one good thing about amazon is they have a no hassle return policy... you dont want/like it.. just get a RMA # and send it back.

Is this what your looking for??

Request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system as well as the device drivers and utilities specific to your system.

I would recommend making a image of your hard drive before you start. Either use the backup that comes with windows 7 or what i used to image mine was "Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - for personal use"

Did anyone try playing Dirt 2?
I can't play at all becuase of heavy lagging in loading time and in a camping car.
On the other hand, in my old 1640, there is no lagging!

I've changed my DPI back back to normal (100%), but the welcome screen after initial bootup still has the larger DPI setting. If I lock the machine, it stays at the normal 100%, so it only happens during the first login. Any way to change this so it's 100% all the time?

    It's going to explode.

Ok no not really, I didn't have that issue with my 90w that came with the laptop, the only problem I had is the adapter got very hot. The 130w stays nice and cool.

Crackling noise means it's going bad (probably from all that darn heat). I had this with my last SXPS 1640. Just call up Dell and they'll send you one.

Just recieved my UPS label to return my 3-day old 1645. I've been enormously dissapointed with it from the second it came out of the box. Dust under screen, warped palmrest, gouge in one of the aluminum hinges, leather looks like it's about to peel off, and annoying flicker from the display. The flickering was the worst part - on anything but full brightness the screen would flicker every few seconds and there was odd colour shifting occuring (red and blue tinges).

This, added to the obvious throttling issue, was more than I could bear given the cost I paid.

In all honesty, I would not recommend this model until the bugs are worked out. If you get a good unit, consider yourself lucky.

KLOVER, it seems like you managed to receive a unit with virtually everything wrong with it... I already considered myself lucky for not receiving a unit with any dead pixels. Your post makes me feel a lot more lucky :)

He got his (adapter)as a replacement from dell... he had to have dell ship the cord that fit the big adapter (its different than the slim line one).
I Think if you shoot a email to whoever is selling the one you want and ask if comes with a cord or if they sell one (cord)would be your best bet. because buying one from dell will probably be 50 dollars just for the cord.

    A little background:
Plasma TV is hooked via HDMI to a HTIB that has 4 HDMI inputs. I have my TV's color adjusted in a nice sweet spot for the cable box, XBox 360 and PS3. However when I plug in my laptop, it just doesn't look right. Don't know what, but the colors are definitely off. I want to change the settings, but if I do it in Windows, I think it'll screw it up when I go back to the built-in screen. If I do it on my tv, it'll screw it up for my other devices. I'm looking for multiple profiles in windows so I can have different settings for the TV.

I'm thinking powerstrip is the answer, but I can't install it now, there's another laptop i'm working on at the moment. :(

One thing I'm disappointed in is that the picture just isn't that sharp on my tv. It's a 1 year old pansonic plasma. The xbox, ps3, etc look great. I get a bit of flickering when I connect my laptop. Can't figure that out.

The place to change the settings is on the TV. Most good HDTVs save different settings for each input, so that you can calibrate optimal settings separately for DVD/BD, PVR, antenna, PC, etc. My Samsung saves different values for each input, so that what I change for one input does not affect the others.

I have had my studio xps 1645 since December 1st and I have been experiencing the freezing issue. Things I have tried to get rid of the freezing (I have not done a clean install):

Changed the power plan to High Perfomance and changed it's plugged in plan settings to Never, Never, Never for dimming, turning off the display and putting the computer to sleep.

Removed the facial recognition software (because it is annoying) and removed most of the dell software. The only dell software I have left is Dell Dock, Dell Support Center, and Dell Webcam Central.

Removed the dell version of the synaptics mousepad driver and installed the latest one from the synaptics website.

Installed the latest catalyst ati 9.11 video card drivers using the mobility modder.

Since doing all this I have only experienced one freeze, but it's only been a couple days. It does seem to be freezing less now, but one freeze still means it is not fixed yet.

I'm thinking about buying the 130w power supply because mine came with the 90w, and I have some questions:

Has anyone gotten rid of the freezing issue by switching to the 130w power supply, or is it just for the throttling issue?

Does it matter if I buy the slim or the not slim 130w adapter?

That is true, but my TV connects to the receiver via HDMI 1. There is only one output on the receiver, but 4 inputs for other devices. I have to keep my TV on HDMI 1. I could plug my laptop into HDMI 2, 3 etc, but then I won't get surround sound, unless I use an optical cable back to my receiver.

I don't agree. There are no definite solutions for the freezing, and one person who said they did a clean install said they still got freezes. I've tried all other options that people have mentioned.

The question that needs to be asked is after he did his clean install what programs did he put back in. I for instance basically did not reinstall any of that other software that Dell provided except for the webcam, everything else is gone.

Also used all the drivers from Dells website and I do not get any freezing at all.

I didn't install either of these programs when I did a clean install.

Have you tried running WITHOUT ANY startup items? I do not understand why this golden rule of troubleshooting is so easily thrown away..there is a reason it's a golden rule.

Not to be rash, but there seems to be a positive correlation between people who did a fresh install and people who do not experience the flashes. Put one and one together: something Dell has installed?! Maybe, instead of naming what all you have running, it might be best if people just SHUT IT ALL OFF and tried running their videos or whatever causes them freezing.

    After that......we can go somewhere.

    ~Ibrahim~

P.S. Not directing this towards anyone in particular, not even the person I'm quoting. Just throwing my 2 cents out there.

As my new 1645 is wrapped and under the tree till Christmas, I need some help. I want to order a ExpressCard CF card reader but I need to know if it has a 54 slot or a 34 slot. Any help would be great.

    TIA!!
