It's pretty stable for me...lol...I have a benchmark of 995...pretty impressed...
-
I tried 10.3 but my stability in Age of Conan went to crap. Lots of lockups and frame lag, so now im back on Dells drivers and its running great again
And.. I just ran Furmark at 1024 and 1280 and for 2450 as my score.. with the older drivers. I read here about 1450 being a high score?
My 3dmark06 is 7550. -
-
yes, we are running at 1920 x 1080, please try your test at that rez.
Perhaps there is a Profile for Age of Conan:
-
I cant
My max res is 1600 x 900.

oops, for some reason I thought I saw RGBLED 16" in your Sig..

Just received the 130w and ran some tests, Posted Here

Ok, so I'm new to the whole having a discreet GPU on my laptop, so this is clearly an ignorant question, but I can use different drivers, CCC, etc from ATI/AMD for the 4670...ones not spec'd for it specifically? AMD's site is telling me ver. 9.9 is the one for my card, but everyone's talking about 10.2 and 10.3.
Is there a thread I'm gonna be told to go read or can someone explain? I'm about to do a clean install and just want to get this straight...
Thanks! -
How is the heat on the palmrest and when the laptop is on your legs?
My laptop is current in production but these issues are making me have second thoughts. I'm glad to see the throttling issues being resolved though. -
It gets warm but not like OMG IM BURNING!!!!!!!! hot like a few other laptops get. Usually when I use it on my legs I am only browsing the web so it doesn't even get warm at all.
-
No issues here either.
The left side is a bit warmer than the right but nothing annoying or excessive.
No regrets here, it’s an awesome laptop this meets and exceeds my needs and expectations so far. -

What does Dell use? -
Hey everyone! Currently considering this for a replacement of my current laptop.
Is it possible to get the 16" RGBLED display like it says in the description on the site?
I was messing around with a build up and I never saw a display option. The feature list has 3 options, yet the build sheet just lists the 15.6" LED display. -

Hey, this dell laptop was not only an update for me in terms of hardware, but it was also a big software update (jumping from XP to Windows 7) and i ran into a little problem (windows 7 related). Sorry if my question is too offtopic when it comes to the 1647, but i have no idea where else i can get help with my problem. feel free to keep the replies out of the thread if anyone can help. PM is fine.
When im transferring files from one computer to a next, my favourite method is by sharing a folder, and then mapping it as a drive on the other computer. with xp it was very easy, but the security in windows 7 is crazy. when i try to share a folder (any folder on my C drive ..windows partition), it does not want to map on the other computer. to make sure i knew how to do this properly (with win7) i tried sharing a folder located on another drive and i didnt believe it, but it successfully was mapped and i was able to transfer data.
When i try to map a folder shared from the c drive, while mapping, it will show up as if it was working perfectly, then when you try to go into the mapped folder, it says "no permission to view files" or "acess denied" something along those lines (dont remember the exact message). anyone can help me out with sharing stuff on my C drive? -
I was looking for an i7 system, do they still make and i7 with that display like the one in your sig? -
I just went to laptop and minis drop-down menu and selected XPS16. If you’re looking for a i7Quad it is a 1645 not the 1647 and I’ve not seen the 1645’s showing the RGB in a while. Could be due to power/throttle issues, I’m not sure as it consumes more power (like 5 watts). This with the quad at 10 watts more TDP it may be too much…. Again not sure why so don’t quote me on this reason.
Both the 1645 and 1647 are 64bit Windows (any version), standard.
The i7620m is currently available only through the Dell EPP side of sales, you can call and try to get it but I’m not sure you would successful at it.
I posted this a few days back as work around to get the i7 620m through the EPP sales if you want it. (I love mine!)

Hey guys!
So I updated the bios today to the A04.... now it seems like my fan is almost always on maximum. Anybody else experiencing this? Solutions?
It's pretty annoying....
Thanks -
To add to the question about heat on your legs, I dont have any problems with the heat but the lump that's the 9 cell battery really does get annoying to the point of stopping the use of my laptop because of how uncomfortable it is.

How much battery life are you guys currently getting, especially if you've applied the new BIOS. I'm particularly interested in the experience of anyone with the RGBLED screen.
-
A03 gives me a solid 3hours and 45 minutes transferring files, supporting a mouse and sub-stick, playing around with both photoshop, illustrator opened.
9Cell battery, I'm pretty impressed. That's with the brightness turned down and the backlit keyboard turend off.
Ah yes and listening to music, over the speakers (I just enjoy listening to those damn nice speakers!) -
-
with the 9 cell I can watch about 3.5 hrs of hd movies off headphones and brightness at 50% and still have about 30 minutes left to do stuff

I don't know if anyone remembers but a while ago I asked about the DPI setting for the Windows Logon screen. Its set at 125% by default by Dell. I personally got tired of looking at everything blown at 125% so I put it too 100% and that's when I noticed the Windows logon screen doesn't seem to take effect to that and causes a brief flicker of a black screen.
Well here is the fix. Very easy to do. Only difference create the LogPixel file using QWORD 64 bit and set it to 96 which is 100% dpi for the Windows Logon.

Just tried out the Starcraft 2 Beta. Very playable on medium settings, and on low it ran flawlessly. Not ideal but still nice to know.
-
Screw you -_-
-
.
I'm glad to hear BF:BC2 can be essentially maxed. Need to get me that game sooner or later. -
-
Ugh new problem guys.. Now i have dust/dirt behind my screen.
-
Have you been watching "Dirty" movies?

for me it works...
PS, I only have trouble with a trembling subwoofer when really poor sound quality is presented to it. Like a noob-made youtube movie. Other then that, it's sublime. -
Haha no worries. It was just an offline version where you could only play against the computer my friend let let me borrow, but the game is pretty sweet!

how do i use turbo boost? what i want to know is, after i install the drivers on the front page of this thread, how do i determine if its on or not. and can i turn it on and off? (i know the way its designed is to automatically boost as needed but i want to make sure its set to that mode, or take that mode off as pleased)
thanks
i see it under device manager/system devices. once its enabled, does that mean its automatically working? and if i dont want it working, i can disable it right there? -
It should be on automatically since you saw it in device manager. Someone posted this link earlier on this forum http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18353 it is a gadget for your desktop from Intel that will tell you when your processor is turbo boosting. Its pretty simple. You can also download CPU-Z and that would show you as well. I do not know however if there is a way to turn turbo boost on or off on your own.
-
OK. My final post on this thread, and I'm back to my regular duties of listening, reporting and escalating technical issues. For any new items, please contact Brad or Todd from Dell.
Just got off a call with the engineers for the 1647. The decision has been made to not cut in 130W adapters for this system, however, any customer complaining of a hot 90W AC adapter can have a 130W adapter sent as a replacement exchange. It's been fun, guys and dolls. -

Im looking to order this notebook and from the reviews I've seen the RBGLED display is incredible (although may be very reflective in very bright light). However, I wont be using any graphics-intensive programs (games, photo-editing programs etc), and if I use it to watch movies it will be connected to an external display.
Given the above, is it still worth it for me to upgrade to RGBLED display? -
