If you have 7.11.0.7703 HDMI, you have the new 10.x drivers and that explains it, HDMI ver 5.0.7000.9 is loaded with the 8.692.1.0000 package.
Both 10.2 (WHQL certified) and 10.3 Preview are great drivers, I was posting about not using the 8.692.1.0000 package (currently, on the top of the page at strags.com)..![]()
All three are linked at strags.com

I'm getting an average WEI of 4.3...is this a problem? Most of my WEI scores are 5.9 and above. It's just that the Aero criteria is 4.3...

update your ATI Drivers, check strags.com

Btw, to those who have calibrated the RGB screen... If one should apply your adjustments, would one get the same results? Or are all screens a bit different when coming from the factory?
Cuz if it's not a big difference, we could exchange the best settings for the rgb-led and the wled -
guys dell is having 10% cashback right now. im jumping on the 1099 xps 16.
-
Just to confirm from those WHO HAVE a 130w adapter, what's the part number on yours?
I have JU012 plus the 3 pronged cord.
Cheers! -
-
I just thought I'd mention this. If anyone currently needs an extra 90w adapter, I have one BRAND NEW I'm looking to just get rid of. I'm asking $25 which is not bad at all! Dell wants $65.99 for a new 90w. This is not the slim one though, just a regular 90w adapter which is considered as a spare for the SXPS 16. See link, still smaller than the 130w and $25 isn't bad. Anyone interested PM ME

Does anyone know who makes the 128G SSD that Dell is offering? I know the 256s are made by Samsung. (I tried to search in this thread oddly no one mentions the type of 128 SSD just the 256)

so what does the 720qm turbo to with 2 cores?
-
its by link only. Their site is retarded and doesnt post the i7 config without the 2 year warranty. -
I've seen it go as high as 20% before (during the holiday season). Anyone think it will get that high again any time soon? -
Maybe...HP and Bing had 20% cashback last week. But they weren't having sales like Dell is this week.

Anyone get their laptops really early compared to their ETA they have on their website? mines says 3/26 i live in houston so im hoping my 5-7 shipping is really like 2-3 days. Just wondering if this is just an "estimate" to be on the safe side and theres a chance it does ship earlier.
-
It depends really. I got mine nearly 2 weeks earlier then they said it would be shipped by (its a 15 minute drive to dell in round rock) other have waited nearly months after there eta. Most of the time though I think the eta is the latest possible it will ship by

Hey guys,
get your laptop in a REALLY quiet room, then tell me if you could hear a VERY faint extremely high pitched noise coming from the LEFT SIDE (if facing it).
It's VERY faint and you won't notice it until you pay attention for it, but it's been causing me headaches. I want to know if I'm alone with this.
Thanks -

Guys, thanks for the advice about strags.com.
I've downloaded the 8.702.0.0000 (CATALYST 10.2) drivers. Now my question is, do you have to remove the old catalyst drivers before you install the new driver? I'm familiar with Nvidia mostly where I just use the Nvidia Cleanup program to remove old drivers. How about ATi drivers? Can I just install on top of my current one?
Umm...ignore this post. I found a guide for it. Thanks. -
What kind of warranty are most of you buying with your 1647? Adding anything beyond the basic 1yr warranty adds at least $200 to the price, so I'm wondering if it's worth it to get an advanced warranty with the laptop, and if so, what do most of you recommend?
Thanks! -
to me its not worth it. But to others it might be. Ive never been a warranty person and just go by chance. Its worked out for me for about 7 laptops. 1 laptop the standard warranty took care of it.
-
Personally I would just get the standard 2 yr warranty. stuff usually breaks for me the next day after the one year is up

- Used the new version (10.2/10.3) to Uninstall (you get Install and Uninstall options) - it may not find anything depending on what was installed.
- Used Driver Sweeper, selected all the ATI options (including Registry Entries, if any) and removed them (after reboot, Win 7 will come up at 800x600).
- Used the new version (10.2/10.3) to Install the new version
. - Used the new version (10.2/10.3) to Uninstall (you get Install and Uninstall options) - it may not find anything depending on what was installed.

Just wanted to report these quick stats:
Dell XPS 1647 arrived yesterday
WEI out of the box:
Processor: 6.8
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 5.9
Primary Hard Disk: 6.9
After upgrading to Catalyst 10.3 preview and A04 BIOS:
Processor: 6.8
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 6.7
Gaming Graphics: 6.7
Primary Hard Disk: 6.9
Memory is limited by the fact that I currently use 4GB. -
That is weird. How come you have the same cpu as i do yet I am getting a lower wei on the cpu (6.3)
-
I am getting 6.6 and I have the 430M.
Maybe you ran the WEI without the Turbo boost driver? -
I have the turbo boost driver installed. That is weird.... What are some other things i can make sure of to be able to at least be getting what you are getting fmac
edit: is there a newer version from intel then what is on dells site? -
I dont think so. I installed mine on December.
About the way to improve your score, I really dont know. I didnt do any modifications, I just ran the test.
Try reloading WEI with every application closed and tell me if the score improved. -
Just because I can i reinstalled the driver and aprently i never had in installed (fail!) I reran the test and now get a 6.7 on the cpu score

anyone play Battle Field 2 Bad company 2 Multiplayer with the 1647??? I can only play at 1280x720 res with setting on medium...I get about 35 to 40 fps....if I switch to 1920 res it drops to 20-22.... little too lag.....
-
your making me sad! hopefully my quad can bring the frames up. -
-
Do not know why you guys are having the lag issue in battlefield? I can play it maxed out just fine (shadows/effects low, aa x1) What settings do you guys have it at and have you guys updated your gpu drivers?
-
Hi Guys, this is probably a silly question but I've tried all I can think of atm.
I have downloaded the Catalyst 10.2 drivers from strags.com. When I extracted the file I found 4 folders
1) Vista-7-AMD64
2) Vista-7-x86
3) XP-2003-AMD64
4) XP-2003-x86
Couldn't find any setup executables or install files. I didn't want to click any of the apps files in the sub-folders in fear of creating more problems. So bottom line, how do I install this driver? There are 4 folders and I assume they are for different operating systems. 64bit Win7 I assume is Vista-7-AMD64? -
-
A bit of a dumb question, but does the 130w AC adapter have that cool blue light?
-
-
-
what are the chances of getting the 130watt adapter now?
is there still a chance? because my 90watt gets real hot for real!!
if not, ill even buy the 130watt one, but i want the slim one with the 6ft long cable..
K260C (cord) and JU012 (slim 130W adapter). -
Yes there is. I live in Latin America and today they phoned me from Dell confirming the delivery on Friday. It took a while but that was expected since I bought the PC in the USA and I am requesting the adapter in Latin America. Once I get it on friday I will thank Bill, he offered me a solution right away.
-
Emailing is probably the easiest and most convenient way, it took them 2 days to get back to me, but once someone was assigned to my case, it went VERY fast. -
-
Just out of curiousity, you guys that have Core i5 430/5XX cpu - the ATI with 1gb in the XPS 1647, what sort of 3dmark06 scores are you getting not counting any modification or overclocking etc, please specify also if you have the 90w or 130w.
-
-
Do they still require you send back the 90W after you receive the 130W? -
I guess it just depends on who you talk to.
The 130w is quite large compared to the 90w (a tad over double the size), but it is worth it; I experience zero power related throttling since A04 and the 130w. I do still get GPU thermal throttling, but that is unrelated.
