OK alot of ppl have had the yellow fever on the m1730 were you upgrade past stock drivers and get your whites turn to a bright yellow color. NO MORE!! i have fixed mine, but unfortunately your going to need to have a warrenty to fix it.

Over the course of attempting to fix this i have had the motherboard replaced, then the GPU's replaced then i had a multi part replace including the LCD, GPU, Heatsink and Mobo. It stopped occuring after the multi part replace. Support would also send me a new machine if it still was not fixed.

I believe it was the LCD because that is the only part i replaced once...besides the heatsink but i doubt that could cause it. So the cure im about 95% sure is the monitor for the laptop, at least im 95% sure that was my cause. Now if you want to go just for the LCD from dell go for it but if you still have the warrrenty getting a multi-part replacement wont take much time or effort and is worth the payout.

Here is the trick, when explaining your problem include the stock dell drivers as causing the problem and that you need to run 150.xx to make it stop. This way they can not say its the non dell drivers causing it (BECAUSE IT IS NOT). You can also include that you have reformatted because i tried doing that and switching to XP from vista and still no luck so that is not the issue either.

Once they understand your problem they will ask you some trouble shooting questions just answer them to what is going on but remember your using Stock DELL drivers! If they do not point towards a multi-part replacement tell them you have heard of this issue online before and it being solved by multipart replacements and system exchanges. They proposed a shipment out to a depot for 7days first, but i needed it for school. If you dont want to send it out you can say you need it for work/school and they will present you with another option or you can then suggest the multi part replacement.

If you have XPS hardware support should not take verylong to acomplish and is definately worth it to fix that **** issue. Plus if you are getting the multipart replacement do remember to ask what happens if it still is not fixed, then you can ask if at that point you could get a system replacement.

The technician called me 2 days later, came and installed the parts in about an hour and it was smooth sailing. Thought id let you know my findings and hopefully this fixup guide helps everyone with m1730 YELLOW FEVER.

So you are saying that you replaced the LCD? Maybe with a Sharp instead of an LG?

I just sent a 1730 back because of the terrible LG display. Im hoping the next one I receive (tomorrow) has the Sharp. If this doesnt work Im done with the XPS M1730.

They were both Rev. A00, its weird even the serial number was identicle on the top right back of it.....they could have changed the way they make that model, but not changed it enough for it to be a revision. Who knows? all i know is my screen works now, and now im moving on to better things like learning the whole GPU OCing thing, only done CPU in my computer adventures, soo time to learn up.

    Sweet im a notebook geek now(CYBER HI-5)!

all dell screens for the 1730 are A00... its the samsung revision that changed.. they would both say A00. samsung has the ltn170ct02 and the ltn170ct02-001 the 001 is the newer revision of this panel..it is dimmer than the older one (hence why a couple people measured theirs at over 200 and my panels were under 170 at max) but does not have coloration issues and better leakage than the older one did

Ahh ok, good call i think have that then, because it felt a bit dimmer. I dont mind because this laptop is not called "The Beast out in the mid-day sun" so its fine for inside, plus my t260HD is BRIGHT> 10k:1 contrast i think, its crazy vibrant but it maintains a nice balance of darks and lights.

did you put the panel in? it would have been on the label on the back but yeah it sounds like thats what you have. i love THE SAMMY its just to dim for me. i like em bright and the sharp is brighter but i do think the samsung has awesome color to it.. whites could be a tad "whiter" though they tend to have a bit if green/blue tinge to them

believe it or not the samsung panel dell uses normally bought from samsung is actually a matte finish then they add the gloss coating over it. a lot of lcd suppliers that sell that samsung sell it as a matte screen then its a extra 50$ to add the glossy coating.. screentek does that with this panel.. imo thats why it has the grain to it..overall a nice panel though

I just wanted to note that I just got a new m1730 fully loaded and I have the yellow display issue. I'm talked with tech support today to get really no where and they told me to just sit tight until they find a fix. I'm going to call tomorrow afternoon and hopefully I won't be speaking with Philippines and someone will just send me a new lcd.

I did crack open the lcd cover and it's a Samsung LTN170CT03-001. I was actually surprised to see it was a newer lcd and they're still having issues.

Hopefully, I'll get tech support tomorrow to get a new LCD out to me. I'm just curious why this is still a prob with the 1730's. If it was a driver issue you think they would of fixed it by now and if it was an LCD issue then the OEM's would of fixed it by now in their latest revisions.

Anyways, i'll let you all know what happens for anyone still having this same yellow screen issue.

They finally released a real fix for this issue. They release a bios update yesterday 7/30 - R230862 - should be in the list of downloads for your system, yay!

Not system BIOS, he's referring to video BIOS.

There are 4 BIOS files under the video section for 9800GTX, 9800GT and two versions of the 8700GT (one labelled G84).

There is no mention of the 8800GTX though possibly the 9800GT may work as they are both G92s /shrug.

My 1730 has dual 8700M GT cards and the driver showed up when i logged in to dell and signed up my service tag. And no it's not the a10 bios update, it is an update for the bios of the cards that specifically says its for the yellow fever issue. It worked perfectly on my machine and I'm thankful I don't have to be stuck with those old drivers forever.

Does anyone know what you are supposed to do if you have the 8800GTX. There was only a new VBIOS for 9800GTX, 9800GT, and 8700GT. I can't take this yellow screen any longer.
