Correct me if I'm wrong but I can turn the switch on and off but in order to actually connect to the internet, I have top open the windows mobility center and turn on wireless? Seems kind of redundant, no?

No. I've never needed to use the control in Windows Mobility Center. I just use the hardware switch on the keyboard: Fn F2.

Fn F2 also works fine for me to disable and connect to the internet once again.
