Hates
No easy access mouse pad disable, sensitivity of media buttons, cheap looking keyboard...

XPS 1645:
9-cell battery sticks out (no alternative battery choice when purchasing laptop online)
fan is louder than expected (and I was expecting it to be loud)
laptop gets smudges everywhere
Vent blocked by open screen, blows gunk onto screen
bundled with 15 month McAfee
Power cord is located on the right side (kind of a cheap shot for me to take, but it's true that I hate this)
last but not least, throttling -
Studio XPS 1645:
I hate that it doesnt make me coffee in the morning.
I hate that it runs my games and handles my multitasking at work so well
I hate that it runs Prime95 and furmark without any heat issues or video stuttering
I hate the beautiful WLED 1080p screen
I hate the 3+ hours of battery life that come standard on 1645 quad core discrete GPU notebooks
I hate the back lit keyboard for those times when I lose track and need to realign visually
I hate the aluminum accents and the magnesium alloy construction and how it keeps my notebook safe when crammed in my pack
I hate how thin and light my workststation is
I hate how it runs as cool as a 17in workstation even though its only 15.6in, yet packs the same or VERY close to the same power
and lastly...
I hate how dell does not ship them with the ability to do a clean install out of the box. -

1645
1. Throttling
2. Vent placement
3. Lid scratches due to keys and battery area..
4. Too hot to use on lap for very long
5. Memory Card Reader is flakey(sometimes I have to hold the card in to be recognized)
6. Keyboard is cheap and shows sign on ware quickly
7. 9 Cell is huge and buyer stuck with no other option for the slimmer 6 cell -
1640, black
1) Fingerprint magnet
2) Subpar sound (great with high quality audio files, but with lower kbps, it starts to buzz and vibrate, so not as versatile as some audio hardware I've seen on other laptops)
3) Gets rather warm/sometimes hot without the use of cooling device.
4) Dust get into the speaker grills.
5) Plastic/screen all around seems flimsy and unsturdy, bends easily. I was expecting a much more solid build.
6) Edge-to-edge plastic screen is easily (irreversibly scratched). So far, just minor (1-2) small scratches on the screen which I don't notice unless the screen is off and at a certain angle. But I do know the area behind the battery has several larger scratches which I was unable to remove by wiping. Also, flimsy piece of plastic.
7) Backlit keyboard isn't too bright. I guess it's all right when the room is absolutely dark, but otherwise it doesn't seem as bright as I'd hoped judging from those 'idealized pictures' on the website before I bought it lol.
8) Location of vent. -

notebook: xps m1530
Hates:
1) It's not a Studio XPS16 with a core i7 CPU or ATI 5750 video card -
-
Annoyances:
1) Power cord coming from the right-hand side because it gets in the way of using a mouse. Could easily be solved by a 90 degree angle plug on the power adapter.
2) Crap in the grill down the sides of the keyboard. The speakers are only 1"x1"... the grill doesn't need to be that long.
3) Scrolling in a window using the side area of the track pad is flaky at best. It seems the area defined on the side of the track pad for scrolling doesn't include the very edge of the pad or something, so you actually can't use the edge, but have to go just inside the edge.
4) A single stuck-pixel (always shows red). Honestly though, I almost never notice it.
5) Fan can be a little loud under heavy (HEAVY!) load, but this isn't an issue because I game with headphones on. Is surprisingly quite under general usage though.
6) It would be nice if my laptop made me coffee in the morning, infact, I demand Dell puts that in the next generation of XPS laptops.
7) Would prefer one more USB port to the Display Port. Would also have liked USB 3.0.
8) Ya sure, I'll harp on the stupid vent placement as well... because it really is stupid. A vent that is obstructed by the screen; my congratulations to the engineer that figured out that one.
Loves:
1) The screen (WLED 1920x1080) is amazing! So bright, so crisp, so colourful.
2) Keyboard is a pleasure to type on. Quiet and responsive.
3) The power! A monster CPU, piles of ram, good video card, big harddrive, etc etc. This laptop destroys everything I've thrown at it. (Destroys in a good way)
4) The looks. A sleek and beautiful laptop. With the exception of the stupid speaker grill which collect particles, the laptop looks great! I have the black version with no leather. I really appreciate the solid black with grey metal accents. Sure, it attracts finger prints, but I'm always transporting the laptop in the sleeve from Dell, so when I unpack it, I give it a 10 second wipe down and it's good to go.
5) 5.1 sound output from the mini-jacks. I didn't know this when I bought the laptop, but the input/output sound jacks on the side can reconfigure themselves to output 5.1 surround. This made me very happy because I have an older (ie. non-digital) surround sound system.
6) Quality of the built-in speakers is very good. I've ranted about this a few times, but after removing all of the garbage "sound enhancing" software and making sure Windows also isn't trying to do "bass boost" or anything stupid like that, the sound quality is surprisingly good and very loud.
7) It might not be the lightest or the smallest laptop around, but it's very portable (I'm a tall guy, so perhaps this is just me?). I carry it around with me every day to and from work. It fits in my backpack no problem, and while I notice that it's in my backpack, it's not a burden. This is impressive consider the power packed into this laptop. -

XPS 1530: Heat! But loved everything else about it.
XPX 164x: Heat! LOL but seriously...those bloody speaker grills that catch everything in them! -
SXPS 1645
- Only 1 fan
- GPU is not upgradeable
- No USB 3
- Media keys always on
- Dust gets behind screen
- Throttling -
-
XPS 1645
- Throttling
- Sub par GPU
- No number pad squeezed in when plenty of 15 inchers these days have them.
- Mirror surface of the screen
- Big battery yet still crappy battery life. They could have added a couple more cells into the 9 cell. Part of the piece that protrudes is simply empty space to make it symmetric! Why not stick another cell or 2 in there!
