I fully loaded the 14-inch one with everything except an SSD.

    It will cost $2100.00

Is it a good choice? What other laptops should I be looking at?

Honestly if I wanted to spend $2100, the Vaio Z would've been the first choice.

    Ditto, Vaio Z.

And I would buy the old Studio XPS over the new XPS.

Well, I mean, do you really need all of that?

I configured an XPS 15 for around $2500 (including Microsoft Office Home & Busineness, 3-Year Advanced Warranty and stupid $510 SSD).

For me, it would seem silly to spend over $2000 on a laptop without an SSD. But that's just me. Sony VAIO Z is comparable, so is the HP Envy. Personally I wouldn't get the Z because it's too small and it lacks media buttons. :\

SSD isn't stupid. The Samsung 256GB SSD with TRIM is a killer drive. And to be honest the 1645 blows the new XPS out of the water in my opinion.

I just plain don't like the Envy, so it's out of the question for me. And the Sony Z is too small. :\ I really want a 15-inch. And Sony's 15-inch offers have underwhelming specs.

The MacBook I have had a starting price of $2200 (over $2700 with MS Office and Apple Care), so I don't feel that bad about getting a $2500 Dell.
