Hello, my AC adapter just died, and I read that Dell power adapters die very quickly, so I've been looking around for third party AC adapter for my laptop.
If any of you know of a good one, your response will be greatly apprecciated.

    Thank you

I've got a Kensington PSU which works fine with my Dell E6400. Belkin, iGo and Kensington are all worth a close look.

I've not read anything which indicates that Dell PSUs have an above-average death rate. The two factors which kill most PSUs are (i) power surges and (ii) cable fatigue where the user tidily wraps the wires around the PSU.

I wanted a second power supply for my XPS 1530 so I could leave one at home and keep one in the bag. Bought a Targus APM12 cheap ($39) from an online outlet store (google for it). You will need to make sure you get the S35 adapter tip for it to work with the XPS 1530. I had to buy mine directly from Targus as the package I got for $39 didn't have it. But, $39 for the power brick and $20 for the adapter is $59 total which is still less than the $80+ that Dell wanted.

I just looked and the adapter is now listed for $70 + S&H so this may not be so much of a good deal. Would be *IF* you could find the APM12 with the S35 tip included in it, though.

I do like the APM12 over the dell supply as it can take multiple power tips. This means I can use it with multiple laptops going forward provided 100W's is enough.

If it doesn't say it's a genuine Dell adapter (and sometimes you really have to watch the wording), it's most likely fake. Genuine Dell adapters can be found for a pretty low price though, and I wouldn't recommend against picking up a used genuine Dell adapter over a non-OEM device. The super-cheap generic ones seem to be much like cheap desktop power supplies; they'll work well enough under light loads and fry if you stress 'em too much.

I decided to get the iGo but my laptop doesn't want to charge...at least is functional for now. Luckily for me a friend lent me the adapter so now I know it doesnt work well for my laptop. I guess that ill have to buy the dell adapter then.

    Thanks for the replies.

If you bought a 65W adapter, that might be your problem. Some models require 90W to charge.
