Not sure if this is the best place to post this thread, but I am in the market for a new computer and have settled on a Dell Studio XPS 13. I am just trying to determine what hardware configuration to go with.

I want the computer to be top of the line, with very powerful graphics-related capabilites. My preferred set up includes an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P9600 (6MB cache/2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB) processor and NVIDIA® GeForce® G210M – 512MB graphics card. This appears to me to be the fastest processor and most powerful graphics card this notebook can support, at least at this time. My worry/question though has to do with the risk of this configuration overheating. I read somewhere that NVIDIA graphics cards run hot. I don't know too much about processors, but I am thinking that the P9600 probably runs hotter and uses more battery than the P8700 (3MB cache/2.53GHz/1066MHz FSB) or P8800 (3MB cache/2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB), which are also both options. But then again maybe not.

Any thoughts on whether this small computer would be at risk of overheating with this set up? Here is the exact specs that I am looking at...let me know if more info is needed:

    Studio XPS 13 Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P9600 (6MB cache/2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB)

Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

    MEMORY 8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms)

LCD Panel Edge-to-Edge 13.3" HD WXGA Slim WLED LCD with 1.3 Megapixel Camera

    Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce® G210M – 512MB

Hard Drive 500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

    Thanks.

I would assume that they would not offer that package if it had the chance of overheating. ANY computer has a CHANCE of overheating, but the manufacturers test the combinations they offer.

The computer is gona feel hot on the bottom cover part.... meaning if you want be able to put it on your lap... But as for internal temperatures Im sure they will be fine, otherwise they wouldnt offer that feature... heres a good example... if you go to a dell site to customize the xp1340 you have option for home use or business... in business class they give you an option of higher clocked processor 2.8ghz but they only let you combine it with 9400m not 210m because of heat... now if you choose a 2.6 processor they let you combine a 210m card..... so 2.8 has issues... 2.6 is ok!

So dont worry about it! plus you want be using 210 most of the time! because its sli,,, and you dont need powerful graphics most of the time...

My setup has 2.4ghz processor and only 9400mg card and i can use it for anything other than serious gaming!

So its not gona overheat dont sweat it!
