Had a little accident at work today

Had the power cord attached to the laptop, I got up and tripped over the cord pulling the laptop along. Screen was open. Thats the aftermath. The rear "metal"ish part needs to be replaced and the front surrounding cover.

Already called dell and should be receiving parts soon. Thank goodness for 4 year accidental damage warranty.
    Screen still works. 0 damage

    +1.

Dell's accidental warranty is something to be praised about.

Some people have changed there leads to right angled adaptors and I understand why but to be honest when I see pics like this i am quite happy if my power cable comes out a little easier.

    Ouch :(

Yup, that's how I destroyed my very first laptop when I was 10. Tripped on the cord and it came crashing down off my desk. Screen cracked and had to throw it away.

How high did it fall from?

And it's a good thing you had accidental otherwise this would be a horror story.
Dell's warranty is one of the main reasons I stay with them, none like them.

Surprisingly everything works like if nothing ever happened. I was shocked to see the screen intact. The M1330 I had suffered a similar fall once and the screen cracked on that one.

Not sure in terms of measurement but take your standard desk and imagine it falling off from that. Wasn't a flat fall either, I got up and tripped over the cord so I literally pulled the laptop off the desk, so it didnt just fall off.......it FLEWWWWWW off lol

Its stories like this that makes me hate Mac for MagSafe because I know I'm never gonna get one.

I can just imagine my heart skipping a beat if that happened to me.
Knowing its gonna fall but you know you can't get to it in time so you're just waiting for it to hit.

Somewhere was a hack... they made their own "MagSafe" for one of the Dells they had. Not sure what forum though.

You could do that, but that's not the point, Dell chargers don't have a lock so if you trip over it in a way it'll just pull out then it's fine, but if you trip over it on a way this guy did then it gonna fall anyways.

Mac's are kinda designed to come out easy if tripped over it.

    Anyways, no point discussing this.

    :)

I tripped over the cord and it pulled the laptop sideways with enough force to cause it to pretty much fly off. Replacement was very involved, took a bit of time but all done and looks like new. Was a little worried about the display bracket but I bent it back and put it all back.

The service manuals are definitely a huge help. Saves me from wasting WEEKS to send it to depot for something that would take an hour of my time
