So my M1730 got shipped yesterday... they gave me 2 tracking numbers-- both were used in august 08.. So I waited it out, and later on, the two tracking numbers both updated... Both of them say "Electronic info received".

I call Fedex this morning, they tell me Dell hasn't shipped anything yet. I call Dell, the lady tells me it was shipped and not to worry. I don't know who to believe..

So basically I can't track my package and know when its coming.... :(

I had the same problem. Evidently it takes a while for Dell shipments to enter the couriers' systems. I couldn't start tracking my shipment till today, and apparently it's going to be delivered today. Thats almost a week in mysterious transit.

Vendors consider notification to the shipper of a package as "shipped". The shipper doesn't have the package yet however, so the shipper won't have any tracking information. This is common and not a reason to hate Dell.

Why doesn't Dell give out tracking numbers automatically? Why does one have to call and request it?

It's probably been *shipped* but awaiting to be picked up and scanned on Fed Ex's end.

Once it's physically scanned into Fed Ex's system..the 08/08 will be updated and will show current information, I'm thinking. This happened to me when my lappy shipped.

I know you want your 1730 like *now*..just try and be a bit more patient. I'm sure things will get sorted out once Fed Ex get's it scanned in!

Yeah but dell said it has shipped already. And dells site says "In transit". They said they are having problems with Fedex. I have two tracking numbers -- both of which say the same thing.

You need to give it a day or two for Fedex to update their system.

    It'll be there, don't worry.

I know your anxious but you have to look at Dell's notice of shipment as being a day ahead. Once FedEx scans in the package, then it has shipped and you can track your laptop accurately.

All you can do is wait. You just may cause confusion and create more problems.

I waited like 2 days and then called dell for the tracking number which they had.. but the dell website still did not show the tracking number.

When I received my laptop from dell, the dell website still did not say a tracking number, just that the electronic crap was received. So the trick is, wait a day or two and then call dell for the tracking number because dell's website does not update with the tracking number

I still have no problem with dell's shipping.. I received my laptop in like 3-4 days

it does have a tracking # , and dell claims it to be "in transit" while fedex claims dell has not shipped it out.

You really need to read the advice that has been given to you from your fellow forum members above. They are trying to help/give you the answer you are looking for (had the same thing happen, etc.)......

Try and *hold steady*, things will be sorted out.

Give it a day or two. If they say it has been shipped, you have been charged and they say it will get there, then it will. Give it some time, these things happen...

If it's the way our Gateway factory was when I worked there (we used UPS), they have a FedEx "depot", for lack of a better term, in their building. So when the finished systems are ready to ship, they get scanned into Fedex's system, and put on a pallet to go to a Fedex Hub. So they are shipped; and they aren't. They're scanned in to Fedex's system, but they haven't left the building yet. They will be in that state until the truck is full and takes them to the hub, where the pallets are broken down, and the units are scanned in as being in transit and each one is on it's individual way.

there are so many legitimate reasons to hate dell, shipping is definitely not one of them... they sometimes screw the tracking numbers up, but what large company doesn't? they ship thousands and thousands of packages everyday it is inevitable they make mistakes.

wait until your gpu fries, or your ac adapter takes a crap....

    Totally agreed :)
Wait till the hinge on your machine ain't proper, your DVD drive doesn't work, they don't send you CDs and labels, they give you a bent (ie damaged access panel) or your gigabit ethernet card refuses to work at gigabit speeds :p
Then you can hate them :)

Well I just received it. It was fedex's fault. They never updated the status on the page. It went straight from "Initiated" to "In transit" last night. It skipped the "Pick up" stage.

HP does the same. I was checking a package online and it was showing being in transit somewhere but suddenly someone a knockin' on the door and it was the delivery guy.
