I am planning on getting the XPS16, and it comes with a leather trimming. Does anyone know from which animal does the leather come from?
Also, if I call Dell, who should I ask for to ask this question?
Thanks in advance.

Yea I'm pretty sure it would be synthetic leather.... Pleather
-
no respect....
-
sorry cow, your very tasty though!
-
Gonna have to agree with the synthetic post. It would be quite expensive not too mention bad PR if Dell was killing cows
-
What's wrong with killing cows to eat and skin them?
-
Just not good for global business i guess

why do people have a problem with an animal serving its purpose? If it was born to be food and leather why should we keep that cow from fulfilling its destiny?

It is *Genuine Leather Trim*...I would suggest that you contact Dell and ask them your question. They can probably refer you to someone in their Quality/Control/Design Department...Or, even better find the information for you.

To answer the OP's question: The leather is most likely man made meaning it's synthetic.
-
If it was truly *synthethic/man made*, Dell would have to state that, or they would be in a lot of trouble for *false advertising*

Product Safety, EMC and Environmental Datasheet fox XPS 1640 doesn't really help either... -
It is Genuine Leather....................(stated pretty clearly on the website).
Dell would have to state that is was *Synthetic Leather* or what not..if it wasn't.
This part of the Truth-In-Advertising laws.

If, it was not Genuine Leather...they would have many angry consumers, etc..on their hands. Not mentioning, fines or even the possibility of a lawsuit.
OP: Contact Dell...ask for the Quality Control information on the Genuine Leather aspect of the 1640. And, ask if they cannot provide that they give you the information as to where you can confirm this, if needed.

Thanks a lot Cin! I will be calling Dell soon.
Thanks to everyone, wow, these forums rock! I was not expecting this many posts or even this much concern. Truly appreciate it.
Not to be redundant, but, thanks a lot! -
I think when you call Dell, (as shown above)...your answer will be..yes, Genuine Leather.
Let us know what you find out!

(joking lol).

Not sure if you ordered your laptop or not yet..but there is an option without leather as well.
-
I think the leather that Dell use comes from Ostrich buttocks, i could be wrong though but thats what i heard.

Dell's legal Team would have to be mighty *ignorant* to allow Dell to advertise *Genuine Leather* if it wasn't, and open themselves up to a onslaught of potential lawsuits..etc, if it wasn't...
*sigh*.

This might seem like a random, trivial, and unimportant question, but it is very important to me...
