This might seem like a random, trivial, and unimportant question, but it is very important to me...

I am planning on getting the XPS16, and it comes with a leather trimming. Does anyone know from which animal does the leather come from?

Also, if I call Dell, who should I ask for to ask this question?

    Thanks in advance.

Gonna have to agree with the synthetic post. It would be quite expensive not too mention bad PR if Dell was killing cows ;)

What's wrong with killing cows to eat and skin them?

Some vegetarians would go ape... I guess Dell is trying to play it neutrally to please nature-minded people as well. It's quite a large customer base after all. But i aree that cows are tasty :) Just not good for global business i guess :D

why do people have a problem with an animal serving its purpose? If it was born to be food and leather why should we keep that cow from fulfilling its destiny?

I believe that's sort of a discussion that does not belong on notebook forums. And your statement is also wrong. I am by no means overly eco-minded person and i do eat meat, but there are people who share diferent views and don't like killing animals and you should respect their opinion. You can apply your analogy to slavery as well. Just because a black man was born in America in 1880 a black slave family should be a slave for the rest of his life, just to fulfill his destiny? Because that's why he was born, else the master would just kill the mother, so you can say it's his "destiny". I know it's comparing humans and animals but still, respect people's opinions. Every single person doesn't like something or hate something. Some are scared of heights, some don't like alcohol, and some simply don't eat meat and don't like animals being killed.

    Hey there,

It is *Genuine Leather Trim*...I would suggest that you contact Dell and ask them your question. They can probably refer you to someone in their Quality/Control/Design Department...Or, even better find the information for you.

    Cin ;) :)

To answer the OP's question: The leather is most likely man made meaning it's synthetic.

It is not *synthetic* It is Genuine Leather Accents/(trim) per Dell's own site.

If it was truly *synthethic/man made*, Dell would have to state that, or they would be in a lot of trouble for *false advertising* ;)

It is Genuine Leather....................(stated pretty clearly on the website).

Dell would have to state that is was *Synthetic Leather* or what not..if it wasn't.

This part of the Truth-In-Advertising laws.

    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/adv/bus35.shtm

If, it was not Genuine Leather...they would have many angry consumers, etc..on their hands. Not mentioning, fines or even the possibility of a lawsuit.

OP: Contact Dell...ask for the Quality Control information on the Genuine Leather aspect of the 1640. And, ask if they cannot provide that they give you the information as to where you can confirm this, if needed.

It is syntetic leather, it is not made from an animal. Smell it, you will notice it has no odor.

    Aaaah...Check yourself on that!!

Dell's legal Team would have to be mighty *ignorant* to allow Dell to advertise *Genuine Leather* if it wasn't, and open themselves up to a onslaught of potential lawsuits..etc, if it wasn't...

    *sigh*.
