Nice to see a positive Dell customer service story (inevitably buried underneath the bad ones). That's a nice replacement.

Lately, Dell has really come through for me on a few past orders (good pricing and follow-up)...but who knows what the future holds - and I sure remember the past :(

Hey I currently have the decision between another SXPS and an Alienware... how do you compare the two?? Is the size increase that noticeable?

Does Dell base their replacement on initial system purchase price?

    M1730 > M17x-r2
mine got upgraded bigtime because of repair history and then just died.
had core 2 duo 2,4ghz, 4gb ram and sli 8700. getting specs from my sig.
adding ssd and 500 gb myself wich are in my dead m1730 now.
1 4870 is alread faster then the sli 8700 so i'm not complaining.

Getting a m11x as a replacement for a 1330. Was going to get a studio XPS 13(40) which I asked to get with a LED screen. Later it turns out it isn't avalible with LED so I'm getting the AW instead. I know I probably could have gotten the better processor but Since I started this replacement errand in december and there is close to zero difference between them I am happy if I just get a working computer :)

If any of you like Xenn0X had the same experience with a rep ever emntioning an AW during a chat, wanna leave us a copy of what they said?

It's funny how many different answers there are for the same issues from these reps...

I called and instantly asked to be escalated, then escalated again. Then I was told time after time that there was no way that I would ever get anything other than a SXPS 1640. I then asked to be escalated and I was told that he was the end of the line. After 5 minutes of reasoning his manager (or whatever) got on the line and instantly said we would be more than happy to get you your money back. They lie through their teeth and that's all there is to it.

So you are getting a refund and buying an AW, or you told them just to replace yours with an AW and they did it?

I'm getting a replacement for my computer (SXPS 1640) and then I will go ahead and send both of the replacements back to them, get my money back, and buy whatever I want. Right now that looks to be an M15x

Damn, such a long process and a pain in the ... I have been escalated to the Global Escalations err something of the sort they said... They told me they would send me a brand new 1645 and I was voicing how I don't like the design for the heat and all the other issues it has, but they keep telling me they can only replace like for like... which I find hilarious that they replaced my 1536 (studio 15 for which I paid 600 from the outlet for) with this beast that is around 1500.... oh the irony!!!

I opened the exchange request on the 21st of March...so far no word yet on what I'm getting or if anything is even going on. I've asked dell multiple times through chat to attempt to find a status for me but it's always pending. I had been checking the status myself until today when in the "My Systems" page the "Active Service Call Status" had gone from yes to no thus disallowing me access to the status, when asked about it Dell just responded with "it's still pending". How long did it take you guys to get your replacements? Hopefully mine moves along soon.....

Yea. But as long as the WiFi works I won't need the smokesignals.

As for asking the rep for an AW That's kinda what I did.

As I said I was going to get a xps13(40) with the LED.
I then got back to them sayin that I couldn't configure the computer with the LED on the swedish site and therefore asked them if there was a problem with the LED and that if that was the case I could consider going to a smaller form-factor such as the m11x which I later got to do :)

    Got my replacement Tuesday 4/6.

The order showed up in my dell account 3/25. I think it was pending for a short while, but spent most of its time in production. I checked it every day or so and it was 'in production' up until it shipped. Shipped on a Saturday (4/2) 'next business day' and arrived Tuesday.

Are you moving parts from your old system to the alienware? Why the downgrade from i7 820m to i7 720m? and the ram too?

I had to take some hits in order to get them to give me the Alienware.

That being said my original configuration was a i7 720m, with RGBLED. A tech swapped my RGBLED for WLED and gave me the i7 820m as a tradeoff.

Also the guy gave me 6GB because i don't really care about having that extra little bit of memory :p

Same applies to the Bluray, I dropped the Bluray from Read/Write to just Read.

The main reason was a fully specc'd out 1645 is somewhere around 2000-2100$, whereas my specs in the alienware was over 3200$ so I had to make a few concessions.

I care mostly about the video card and not so much about bulky form factor. (not to mention i DO like the design of the alienwares)

And of course, in True Dell Fashion, this is what they've issued me. Just a few discrepancies, Bluray drive missing, Windows 7 Premium instead of ultimate. and 9Cell instead of 6Cell battery.

I'm not sure if I should call now and complain or wait for them to ship it out first then complain.

-Now they're going to call me back...we'll see what I end up with. I'm gonna be mad if they take away my M15x replacement and try to push another SXPS1645 on me.(not that thats likely at this point)
