I am looking for a new laptop and I have my eyes on the Studio XPS 16. It has received many positive reviews on the net.
However, I am interested in hearing from users that have been using the system for about a year or more. Many laptops show their true quality after having been used intensively for some time regarding build quality, noise and overall quality - and of course customer service.
So: to all you experienced Studio XPS 16 users, how are your thoughts on the machine now - after the initial "wow-factor" has worn off? Are you still happy with your machine?
Thanks!

"new laptop", "SXPS 16"... You do realize that they stopped selling them a few months ago? Or did you mean you're interested in buying a used one?
-
No, Sir, they are still available in the Danish Dell store.

the studio xps 16 is a very nice machine, the screen on it is the best I've seen in a laptop. I recommend that you get either model 1645 or 1647 since the older version 1640 has a big overheating and throttling problem. The build quality is great and to be honest the wow factor is still there for me. Also, customer service level should be good since it is in the xps class, but I might be wrong since I am located in the US and you're not. Good luck, it is worth it.

Interesting... As long as you get one with the 5730 you will be very happy. They're fast, well built, and have a great display. Some people with the older 16s were having problems with throttling/overheating, but as long as you don't get the i7 / 4670 combo then you shouldn't have a problem.

The machine sold with a 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 565v graphics Video Card.
Is it any good? Or maybe even a problem for the machine?
Also, it is sold with a i7 720qm CPU. -
The 565v is just another name for the 4670. The i7 / 4670 combo runs a bit hot, and some people have throttling problems with it. However, not everybody has problems. You should be fine if you make sure you get a 130w power adapter, and stick with the A09 BIOS.

Hey seeker, if they're having heat problems they could just run it outside in our 5" of snow here in nova right now!

I recently gave my SXPS16 to my brother and plan on buying a new laptop. I have been looking at the new XPS 15, but compared to my old one, it is so ugly. If i could repurchase the SXPS 16 with the same specs I would do so in a heart beat. It was a great machine, both performance wise, and aesthetically.
-
then why did you give it to your brother in the first place?
-
Yeah, I know. It's about time the weather stopped messing with us around and snowed finally. It's amazing though how people around here are so afraid of a little snow. My kid's school was canceled today, before the snow even started. Hopefully it won't be as bad as last year at least.
-
He's my little brother! And he's not in a position to buy a new one that will be a quality laptop (out of school and no more loans). I'm in grad school and have room in my budget for a new one... so it was part of his Christmas present. And would have been one for me in a way, if I can find a suitable replacement.
-
boy i wish my brother is as great to me as you are to yours

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Or come here to North Potomac MD...we got plenty of snow to share! -
really fortunate your brother is ! hope you get a machine was worthy as your sentiments for your bro!
