So today I did some impulse shopping. Picked up a Studio XPS 16. Here are the details.

I ordered a Studio XPS 16 with the Merlot Red option.

    Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 (6MB cache/2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB)
Merlot Red High Gloss Finish with Leather XPS 1640
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms)
Edge-to-Edge FullHD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP
    ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 - 512MB
320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-bit
    8X DVD+/- RW(DVD/CD read/write) Slot Load Drive
    Intel 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card
Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.1+EDR)
    6-cell Battery
2Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis

    Subtotal: $1,327.59
    Shipping: $29.00
    Tax: $111.92
    Total Amount: $1,468.51

First, not so sure about the Merlot Red color. Looks kinda plasticy. But so does the black. My current M1530 has the blue cover and it looks great. We'll see how the red looks.

I'll call tomorrow to see if they'll throw in the shipping. I see Dell is offering it with other configs and I might have mis-configured mine.

    Good deal?

I was digging the merlot, but I thought more about that red leather.

Kinda reminds me of my grandmothers purse so I think I changed my mind on the merlot :)

    Sweet system, btw....

9/10 you can get the free shipping!

I think the Red is going to be nice...I need to see some *close-ups*, of course!! And, I'm pondering ordering the SPX13 in Red... :)
(I already have the 1530/Mini 9 in Red)!

Thought so! ;) EPP has it's great advantages...just like the deal you got! :D
Did you sign up for the 12 months interest free?
It works to your benefit, as long as you pay it off w/in the allotted time :D
(Otherwise = Get smacked with all that built up interest) :p  lulz.

It's tricky using the Dell site. All the configurations are differently discounted. Sometimes the best deal is hidden in the "As Advertised" section. Sometimes you have to click a special banner, like for this one. This config was behind this small banner:

But be sure, if you can search around you can get a deal for pretty much cost.

Yes, you are right. I upgraded to the T9550, too.
It should come to $1798, pre-discounts.

The Dell DPA discount of 4% (or 3% via dell home)...will only work if you are purchasing and paying via the Dell DPA!

On the XPS..right now you get 12 months interest free, also.

Don't know about the 12 months interest free thing. But the extra 4% discount is applied with the DPA trick. I pay it off in full, so it doesn't matter. It offsets the tax for me! :D

:p HA HA! :) No fist shaking! :nah:

I used Dell DPA on my 1530..the 12months free, and it worked well :) You just have to be sure to pay that baby off w/in the 12 months......or you won't be so happy with the packed on interest outcome! :)
