Hey everyone, anyway to get rid of the clicking noise on the Toshiba MK2051GSY, 7200 RPM hard drive? I did a search and i couldn't find anything.

So far I have already attempted by going into Bios and set the acoustic to "quiet" and it made no difference and if i set it to "performance" does that drain my battery?

Does it happen when you move your laptop? If so, it is the hard drive head parking itself to avoid damage to your hard disk.

I just returned a Seagate 7200rpm drive which was clicking every two to three seconds and it became really annoying since the hard drive is in the front of the M1330. I also tried changing the bios and that didn't make a difference either. Mine's was obviously a defective hard drive in some way and I think yours is too. The Hitachi travelstar 7200 rpm that I ended up replacing it with is whisper quiet, so I think you're stuck with the clicking until you replace the drive.

I had the same issue on my Seagate 500gb and assumed it was a bad drive. I've had enough experience to justify that, but then the replacement made the exact same noise. Somewhere on this board I saw a fix last week to these problems, but the bottom line is it does seem as if it's hard drive head parking.
I know one fix I saw suggested going into bios and selecting high-performance - I guess the standard is 'quiet'. I don't know the exact wording as I can't find the post and haven't yet restarted to do the change myself. But this is a very common problem.
