Hi, new here. I recently purchases a XPS 1530 and I'm LOVING it so far!!...except that the touch buttons at the top of keyboard (you know, the volume and dvd control ones) don't work at all. My friends suggested that I'm missing a driver or something...and I've searched and searched with no success. So I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas on how to fix this.

But on another note, that's the only problem I've really had with this so far for the past few days or so. Oh, and I want to say thanks to the people of this site, everything in these forums really helped me figure out what laptop to get.

You might want to try installing the Dell Quickset application. It's linked below. I don't know whether that will solve your problem, but it might be a good place to start. I hope the link is viable.

We think alike. I tried that right before I posted here. Unfortunately it didn't work.

Does that mean even the DVD eject doesn’t work ? For that you don’t need any software or drivers (it works even outside windows). I haven't installed any special DELL app or a driver, but my media buttons work (inside windows). Sounds to me like a hardware fault.

Yeah, it applies to the DVD eject as well. And I tried more pressure but it doesn't do anything. I'm afraid it's a hardware fault but that's what it most likely is. I really don't want to go through the hassle of fixing this...but I guess I'll call dell tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Yes, in that case its definitely a hardware fault.

In mine the buttons are very sensitive, even the slightest brush of a finger is enough to trigger those.

Yeah... the hinge cover probably isn't connected securely.

Also can eject by right clicking your drive and selecting Eject.. Until you can get it fixed.

Do the lights come on on the touch buttons? Could it be a simple connection problem whereby the ribbon that connects the buttons to the computer (underneath the touch button panel) is disconnected/malfunctioning?

Yes, the little square of light surrounding them does turn a very faded blue when I turn on the computer. I guess the next step is to go to dell, since I don't want to try doing anything myself and risk voiding the warrenty or something. Thanks for the help guys, hopefully this will make my online chat with dell go more smoothly...whenever I get around to it that is.
