    Hi

I tried to do a search for this issue, but was having trouble narrowing down my results. Doing a search for "touch" "media" "button" "games" in this particular subforum gave me more results than trying to use the 10th dimension to solve for A in the Pythagorean theorem.

Basically, I noticed that my capacitative media touch buttons are disabled in some games I play. I recently broke my USB speakers, so I (for now) rely on the volume controls above the keyboard. Unfortunately they don't work in some games like Metro 2033. This can be a bit of a pain as I sometimes need to mute/turn down the volume if I get a call or something while playing games.

The only symptom is that none of the media buttons function during some games. For me it is Metro 2033, and occasionally it happens during Fallout 3 (sometimes the Volume Up does not work while all the other buttons do).

Is there a particular DLL or patch I can install which allows the media buttons to function in any program running? Or is there a different version than the one available from Dell's Support/Driver page I should install?

    Thanks!

Do you have the quickset drivers installed? The buttons work fine in games for me. The little graphic pop-up is disabled, but they still work. I do have to hit the volume down/up keys about 10 times to notice a difference though, like it only changes by 1% each time you click.

What kills me is that the graphic pop-up for the caps lock key isn't disabled, and every time I hit the caps lock key by accident it minimizes the game I'm playing just to display the stupid notification.

Another thing to try, if you do have QuickSet installed, is to uninstall it (at least temporarily). All the buttons, except for eject, will still work...you just won't get the notifications when pressing the wireless, mute, volume up or down buttons. This should help diagnose the problem...whether it is QuickSet causing the issue or just the way the game behaves. You could also try updating to the latest version of QuickSet that came out yesterday.

You should try updating to the latest version that was released yesterday. I believe that is one of the fixes.

A new quickset came out yesterday. It supposedly fixes the caps lock, and maybe more.

    Fixes and Enhancements
    1. Improved the Caps Lock/Num Lock indicators to not block the keyboard input sometimes.
    2. Avoided showing any on-screen display when a full-screen application is running.

    Yep, awesome, thanks.

yes i have QuickSet installed. normally in the Windows environment the volume buttons change the system volume by 2% each tap, but in Metro 2033 even if i hit the Volume Up button 20 times, the volume does not change. i tested this by setting the system volume to 0%, then loaded up Metro 2033 and hit the volume up button exactly 20 times - no change in volume, it remained sound-less.

i'll try this later, thanks for the idea. i didn't think of this!

i've already updated the Quickset drivers (on your recommendations before posting here) and tried it in Metro 2033, but still no change to the issue. thanks for this idea anyways though.

Does anyone else have the problem on source games (TF2 for me), where if you press the mute button it strafes you a little to one side?
