So I'm Customizing my XPS 15, But I'm really split whether the additional functionality of a 15.6" HD (1366x768) WLED Display with Multi Touch 15.6" is worth trading in for the crisp FHD (1920x1080) B+RGLED Display.

Also, would it be a good investment to buy a touch screen since Windows 8 will have a more touch screen friendly interface?

not think windows, dell xps 15 may not support for windows 8 . dell product not following new os update after 1 year os release.

if you has a using touch, choice touch, if not choice full HD.

I haven't seen any reviews about how well the touch screen works, but even if it was flawless I wouldn't give up the FHD screen for it... but I also watch a lot of 1080p vids.

I'm pretty old school. I just don't see a touch computer, whether it be a laptop or desktop that has a touch screen. I just don't see myself "reaching for the screen."
If touch was important to me, I'd go for a tablet.

Don't sacrifice the FHD screen for anything.

The 1366x768 display in the Dell is horrid, whether it's touchscreen or not. Highly likely that they're the exact same screen, just the touchscreen has an extra touch-sensitive layer. The 1366x768 display in the XPS 15 is one of the worst-reviewed displays currently available, so you're wasting your money if you buy the XPS 15 without the screen upgrade. And the touchscreen makes it even more of a waste.

Not only is the quality of the B+RGLED display among the best in the sub-$1500 price range, the higher resolution lets you fit more onscreen at once, and that's the real advantage. It benefits everything you do such as multitasking because you can fit side-by-side windows, and greatly reduces the amount of scrolling you have to do. 1366x768 is an awful resolution for anything larger than 13.3 inches because it's not meant for such a big screen like in the XPS. It makes things huge and cramps your workspace.

Screen resolution makes more of a difference than any other upgrade you can get. Forget the CPU, the GPU, and the RAM, you'll never notice the difference most of the time when it comes to those upgrades. Upgrade the screen resolution first, and don't prioritize anything before the screen resolution upgrade, because nothing else can even come close to making as much difference as the screen resolution does.

Also the touchscreen probably barely works anyway. I've heard bad things about the Touch Screen in other Dell laptops, such as the Precision M6600, so I wouldn't expect this one to work any better. It won't be anything like the iPad's touchscreen for sure, far from it.

Also why would you want touch on a 15" machine? In my opinion, touch is useful in dynamic situations where you are carrying the computer around a lot, which calls for something lighter and compact than a XPS15. I find leaning over to touch the screen of a computer sitting at my desk to be a bit of a bother compared to using the keyboard and mouse.

thanks a lot guys! You just saved me a bunch of money. you all make good points. If I want a touch screen, I'll wait for the tablets dedicated for the touch screen interface. :)

I don't think it costs any more to get the touchscreen 1366x768 over the 1920x1080.

You did get the 1920x1080 display though, right? As in, didn't get the regular junk 1366x768 screen?

You need to get the 1920x1080 display upgrade, or you're wasting your money, that's what I meant. The 1366x768 display (both touchscreen and not) are bad.
